A legendary Medel of Honor mission, reborn
In the Scuttling the U-529 mission, you take on the role of Lt. Mike Powell, embarking on a risky undercover assignment in Nazi-controlled Norway. Your objective is to secretly penetrate a fortified German submarine base, disable their sophisticated Naxos radar system, and demolish the U-529 submersible before it can threaten the Allies.
In this situation, it’s crucial to be strategic about when to conceal yourself, when to retreat, and when to take action, as failure to do so might lead to a literal explosion. This mix of covertness, tension, and dynamic activity will keep you on the edge throughout the mission. It’s definitely one that leaves a lasting impression.
The classic game “Medal of Honor: Allied Assault” is now 23 years old, and while you can still purchase it on GOG, it’s high time this timeless masterpiece received an updated version.
This video isn’t showing an official remake, but rather a fan-created simulation of the Scuttling the U-529 mission. Jos van Laar has brilliantly rendered this in Unreal Engine 5 as a fun and educational project. Despite it not being the real deal, it certainly offers a tantalizing glimpse at what we long for – or even better!
The strategy for this operation was straightforward: infiltrate the submarine, set off the explosives, and depart swiftly. However, discretion seemed to disappear when it came time to escape. It would be delightful to reexperience these moments with enhanced graphics someday. Perhaps, that opportunity will arise in the future.
