For four long years, no new chapter of the Resident Evil series has been unveiled; it wasn’t a remake either. Whispers about the ninth installment have been buzzing, but Capcom has yet to speak up. But there’s a strong possibility that an official announcement is on its way soon.
Resident Evil 9 at Summer Game Fest?
Dusk Golem, who’s deeply involved in the Japanese survival horror series, feels very confident, approximately 95%, that Resident Evil 9 will be unveiled during Summer Game Fest 2025. He’s not completely certain because he hasn’t received official information directly. However, he hints at a lot of activity happening backstage.
This is the first time behind the scenes there’s a lot of buzz in the grapevine, lots of rumblings.
It appears there’s been significantly increased social media activity surrounding the Resident Evil series. Additionally, a source trusted by the informant, Andi from Screenfire Germany, shared that Capcom is expected to launch the ninth installment in Q1 of 2026. This could indicate that an official announcement might be imminent (as reported by ComicBook).
If you’re planning to watch Summer Game Fest on June 6th with the anticipation of seeing Resident Evil 9, you can expect a very strong possibility that your excitement will not be let down. My own enthusiasm is building up as well!
In a different post, he shared that the fifth series installment’s remake is not underway at the moment, yet there’s optimism for its production in the future. However, he reassured everyone that Capcom is indeed developing the remake of Code: Veronica, and it’s expected to launch in 2028. Prior to that, we can anticipate a revamped RE0 in 2027.
Currently, there are no definite plans for a remake of RE5. However, given the success and fan interest in these types of projects, I believe it’s more a question of “when” rather than “if.” For instance, the remake of Code: Veronica wasn’t being developed in 2020, but by the end of 2022, it was officially in development.
Absolutely, this data might not be fully verified yet, so approach it with some skepticism. We’ll discover whether Dusk Golem is correct on June 6th at 2:00 PM Pacific Time, as that’s when Summer Game Fest 2025 is set to begin.
