Tom Cruise’s ‘Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning’ Rules China Box Office

Over the May 30-June 1 weekend, Paramount’s “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning” took the lead in China’s box office, raking in approximately RMB184.5 million ($25.6 million), as reported by Artisan Gateway.

The intense action scenes and IMAX presentations played a significant role in the movie’s successful run, with IMAX earning $4.9 million during its China box office. Furthermore, the movie’s opening weekend in China was IMAX’s largest for any Hollywood film in 2025.

The CEO of Imax, Rich Gelfond, expressed his optimism: “We’re very pleased with the impressive Imax performance in China. This is a good sign for the numerous blockbuster Hollywood films scheduled to be released there in the coming weeks.

Ranking second, the Chinese animated fantasy film “Endless Journey of Love” from Maoyan Movie garnered approximately $7.6 million. Helmed by directors Zhou Tienan and Yu Ao, this movie is set in 1930s China and revolves around a village girl named Qian Xiao, who discovers she can manipulate time. This ability catches the attention of powerful entities, placing her in grave danger as she delves into the city’s concealed mysteries. Throughout her perilous journey, she must grapple with the consequences of her unique gift. The voice cast features Karry Wang, Liu Xiaoyu, and Zhou Shen.

In its debut, the newest addition to the cherished Japanese series, “Doraemon: Nobita’s Tales from the Art World,” ranked third with earnings of $7.5 million. Led by director Teramoto Yukiyo, the movie follows Doraemon and his companions as they venture into the realm of artwork for an epic journey. The vocal talents behind the characters include Wasabi Mizuta, Megumi Ōhara, and Yumi Kakazu.

In the second week of its release, Disney’s live-action version of “Lilo & Stitch” dropped down to the fourth spot at the box office, amassing $6.6 million, with a grand total of $17.8 million so far.
