2026 marks a significant expansion for the DC Universe (DCU), with numerous projects slated for release throughout the year. After much anticipation since the unveiling of plans to revamp and revitalize DC’s film and TV content under the guidance of James Gunn and Peter Safran, the DCU is now officially here. The journey began in 2024 with the premiere of Creature Commandos, followed by the highly-anticipated 2025 release of the tentpole film Superman.
As we peer into the future of the DC Universe (DCU), the year 2026 promises to be its most action-packed yet. Already, there are at least two movies and a TV series in the works, all set to hit the big screen and small screens respectively. With more potential projects on the horizon, fans have plenty to look forward to when it comes to the DCU’s 2026 schedule.
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow – June 26, 2026
Supergirl Embarks On Her Own Grand Adventure In The DCU
To begin with, Milly Alcock will take on the lead role of Kara Zor-El, better known as Supergirl, in the film “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow”. This production is helmed by director Craig Gillespie, who has previously worked on projects such as “Fright Night”, “Dumb Money”, and “I, Tonya”. On the other hand, the script for this movie was penned by Ana Nogueira, a talented actress turned writer, who has also been tasked with writing the upcoming “Teen Titans” film.
In the world of DC Comics, Kara plays a pivotal role, not merely as Superman’s cousin, but also as a hero with her own unique prowess. The film’s source material, skillfully crafted by Tom King and Bilquis Evely, is a seminal tale that underscores Kara as a powerful and competent superheroine. This comic book miniseries chronicles Kara’s cosmic voyage, in the company of Krypto, as she aids a young woman on her quest for vengeance in honor of her slain father.
Clayface – September 11, 2026
A Body Horror Extravaganza Set To Shake Up The DCU
The upcoming DCU movie featuring Clayface is expected to have a unique tone and genre compared to previous ones. Initially, Mike Flanagan was slated to direct following his intriguing script that sparked enthusiasm in Gunn and Safran for telling an unconventional Clayface tale. Unfortunately, Flanagan had to withdraw from the project due to other obligations, with James Watkins now stepping up as director. The script has since been revised and tweaked by Hossein Amini.
Regardless of any alterations, the movie titled “Clayface” remains poised to be a thrilling body horror flick centering around a struggling actor in Hollywood who takes drastic steps to maintain his good looks. Unfortunately, an unfortunate incident involving harmful substances leads to a catastrophic transformation, turning him into a pliable clay figure. The film is scheduled for release in September 2026.
DCU TV Shows Releasing In 2026
The DCU Is Also Expanding Its Small Screen Offerings
The DC Universe (DCU) is focusing on establishing a more harmonious and integrated method for multimedia storytelling right from the beginning. Consequently, DC Studios is venturing into television production as well, in addition to their lineup of theatrical films. Following the outlandish escapades depicted in the animated series Creature Commandos, the DCU introduced a second season of the show Peacemaker in August 2025, which lies somewhere between the DCEU and the DCU. However, the roster is set to grow even larger in 2026.
Lanterns – TBC Early 2026
An Insight Into The Inner Workings Of The Green Lantern Corps
One captivating project that’s anticipated for DCU in 2026 is called “Lanterns.” The series will be led by Chris Mundy as its showrunner, with renowned comic book creators Tom King and Damon Lindelof serving as executive producers. Although the series won’t air until early 2026, there might be some convergence with the upcoming Superman movie, given that characters like Nathan Fillion’s Guy Gardner will appear in both the film and the show.
In the series, Gardner plays a significant role, but the focus of Lanterns lies primarily on the evolving bond between Hal Jordan, portrayed by Kyle Chandler, and John Stewart, brought to life by Aaron Pierre. Both characters are highly influential and well-liked versions of Green Lantern from the comics. This dynamic duo will be delved into extensively across the eight episodes airing on HBO.
