Rian Johnson’s upcoming thriller, titled yet unknown, features Daniel Craig as the lead detective Benoit Blanc, who is once again tackling a case. A fresh teaser for the movie has been unveiled showcasing Blanc setting things ablaze in preparation for a wild storm of events. An additional sneak peek was revealed at Netflix’s Tudum event in 2025.
As a die-hard movie enthusiast, I eagerly anticipate the upcoming update, and the first glimpse of “Wake Up Dead Man” left me intrigued. In the dimly lit chamber, I find myself gripping a towering candle – my character, the enigmatic detective Blanc, stands menacing yet focused, extinguishing the flame before the screen turns pitch-black. This marks the second cryptic trailer for “Wake Up Dead Man” this week, with another revealing an ancient church, its bell tolling ominously in the background.
Here’s another exciting glimpse straight from Tudum! The director, Rian Johnson, was present alongside several key cast members of the upcoming movie. A new teaser sneak peek for “Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery” has been released, which you can see below. This sneak peek also confirms the film’s release date, set for December 12, 2025.
The storyline of “Wake Up Dead Man” is still a secret, but the latest installment of “Knives Out” features an impressive ensemble cast that includes Edward Norton and Josh O’Connor, who play priests in the film, which explains the religious references. Interestingly, its box office performance exceeded the combined earnings of the previous two “Knives Out” movies.
Wake Up Dead Man Could Get a Theatrical Release
After the successes of “Knives Out” and “Glass Onion,” Rian Johnson hopes that his upcoming film, “Wake Up Dead Man,” might see a wider release than initially planned on Netflix. Originally intended to be exclusive to the streaming platform, Johnson’s dissatisfaction with Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos led to this change. “Glass Onion” had a limited one-week run in cinemas before moving to Netflix, raking in $15 million during its brief cinema stay. Johnson expressed his desire to make the film available in as many theaters as possible, stating to Business Insider, “I believe that if you put a movie people want to see in theaters, they will attend. The experience of being in a packed house and enjoying the atmosphere is so valuable. It’s something I cherish, and I wish for more of it in the world.
Given the financial backing behind “Wake Up Dead Man” and the success of the initial two “Knives Out” films, it’s not surprising that producers Johnson and Craig are eager for a broad theatrical distribution. The first two “Knives Out” movies have garnered critical acclaim, with the former boasting a 97% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and earning Johnson a Best Original Screenplay Oscar nomination, as well as three Golden Globe nods. The latter followed closely behind with a 91% critical rating, securing another Oscar nod for Johnson.
1) In addition to Mark O’Brien, the cast of “Wake Up Dead Man” features Mila Kunis, Kerry Washington, Thomas Haden Church, Glenn Close, and Johnson. Notably, Johnson was not only an actor in this film but also penned its script and served as a producer, much like he did for the initial two installments of “Knives Out.
Wake Up Dead Man is set to premiere via Netflix on Dec. 12.
