Even though it’s still more than two years until its release, fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe are already brainstorming which previous and current heroes might appear in the finale blockbuster. Fresh fan art for the sequel revives Ben Affleck’s pre-MCU Daredevil and Henry Cavill’s Wolverine, sparking discussions about their possible roles.
Through a fan art post on Instagram by arifinity_, it imagines invasions during the Secret Wars storyline where various heroes confront Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom in the culmination of Phase Six. The illustrations depict Affleck’s Daredevil and Cavill’s Wolverine amidst destruction, bracing for attacks from every direction by Doom. In these pictures, Daredevil is shown donning his iconic red suit and brandishing his billy club, while Wolverine is portrayed with his claws unsheathed, gearing up to fight alongside the Man Without Fear.
Could Affleck and Cavill Feature in Secret Wars?
In a Marvel blockbuster titled “Daredevil,” Ben Affleck first appeared as Matt Murdock, sharing the screen with Jennifer Garner, Jon Favreau, and the late Michael Clarke Duncan. This film received mixed reviews from critics and had a moderate box office performance. Later on, Affleck joined the DC Extended Universe, playing Batman in movies like “Man of Steel,” “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” and “Justice League.” Known as Batfleck during this period, it’s uncertain if he will ever appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Recently, Affleck has expressed some regrets about his portrayal of Bruce Wayne after his time with the DCEU ended.
In the films that make up the DCEU, Cavill played Superman alongside Affleck, earning recognition as one of the top actors to embody the Last Son of Krypton. Later, the British actor entered the Marvel universe by playing a version of Wolverine called Cavillrine in the blockbuster hit, “Deadpool & Wolverine.” Although Cavill had a great time during his cameo in this film and hasn’t completely ruled out appearing in the MCU again, for now, he remains focused on other projects.
Alongside its predecessor, “Doomsday,” Marvel is providing the “Avengers” movies with ample time to develop before they are released in theaters. At present, “Doomsday” is being filmed in the U.K., and it’s expected to be shot consecutively with “Secret Wars,” as stated by Joe and Anthony Russo, who are directors for both films. In “Doomsday,” Doctor Doom will encounter resistance from a number of well-known superheroes such as Captain America, X-Men members, the Fantastic Four, Wakandans, and the Thunderbolts/New Avengers.
Currently, Affleck has just wrapped up his latest action-packed movie, “The Accountant 2,” alongside Charlie Cox, who stars in “Daredevil: Born Again.” Next, he’s diving into the production of another action thriller titled “Animals.” Furthermore, he’s been cast as the main character in the upcoming Lionsgate reboot of the classic series, “Highlander.
Secret Wars opens in theaters on Dec. 17, 2027.
