Prior to San Diego Comic-Con 2025, Marvel enthusiasts discovered the studio’s strategies for the year’s marquee event. Known for presenting one of SDCC’s most anticipated panels as the Saturday night main act, this studio (Marvel Studios) often shares news about filming and casting that keeps fans excited and discussing for months afterwards.

Marvel Studios has decided not to attend the San Diego Comic-Con 2025. In previous years, they have used this event as a platform to share updates on upcoming projects and cast announcements, often generating significant buzz in the entertainment industry. Therefore, Marvel’s absence from this year’s event may come as a surprise to fans.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Marvel chose to release “The Fantastic Four: First Steps,” their first Phase 6 film, on the same day as the SDCC event in 2026, because they currently have no new movie to promote before that time. Furthermore, Marvel is actively working on “Avengers: Doomsday,” which has been rescheduled for release on December 18, 2026, and they felt it wasn’t suitable for a Hall H panel this year due to the timing not being ideal.

It’s true that this news is undeniably disheartening, but it’s important to remember that Marvel Studios hasn’t always attended SDCC panels in the past.

In 2023, the actors’ and writers’ strikes prevented Marvel from attending the event, as they didn’t have any of their creatives available to promote their upcoming projects. Previously, the event was canceled in both 2020 and 2021 because of worldwide lockdowns due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In 2018, despite the upcoming premiere of “Avengers: Endgame” the following year, Marvel didn’t have anything fresh to share at that time, and they hadn’t yet decided on the title for the fourth Avengers movie. Just as in 2015 (post-“Avengers: Age of Ultron”), Marvel chose not to disclose any new footage when they didn’t have any available.

As a movie enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that Marvel Studios is currently basking in the success of “Captain America: Brave New World,” while “Thunderbolts” continues its cinematic journey in theaters. Furthermore, with numerous Disney+ series yet to premiere, Marvel is gearing up for Phase 6 of the MCU, marking the beginning with “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” on July 25.
