Despite “Big Mouth” bidding farewell on May 23, the talented individuals behind the cherished Emmy-winning show aren’t stopping their efforts to satiate the audience just yet.
Exclusively, we’ve got our hands on a unique peek into the rehearsal process of the unconventional Netflix series crafted by Andrew Goldberg, Nick Kroll, Mark Levin, and Jennifer Flackett. This read-through session lasted for an hour.
As a passionate fan, I can tell you that it was incredibly moving to gather with our talented cast and crew one last time to send our beloved cartoon characters off into the future. We’re thrilled to share this intimate glimpse into our creative process with everyone soon. In the coming week, we’ll be sharing behind-the-scenes footage of the delightful bagel bar that followed the table read. There was so much lox!
The final reading for the production, held on February 21, 2024, at Netflix Vine Animation Studios, united the cast and team members for a farewell journey.
Making a season of television is no small feat,” Levin noted before the unprecedented 101st table read – the most in streaming history. “However, accomplishing 10 seasons over the past eight years is nothing short of miraculous, and we owe this success to everyone who supported us along the way.” He reminisced, “Nick, Jen, Andrew and I first approached Netflix in 2015 to discuss ‘Big Mouth.’ To give you an idea of how long ago that was, Barack Obama was still the president.
During the run of ten seasons for the show, Netflix provided just three suggestions to the team. One was delivered during Season 2, Episode 2, when Missy and Jessi performed a song about their bodies. According to Levin, they expressed apprehension over the scene’s explicitness, stating that it seemed too revealing of the girls’ private areas. To address this concern, the team decided to incorporate some steam to conceal those parts more discretely.
The second point brought up was about Season 2, Episode 5, where Nathan Fillion and Andrew shared an intense kiss in a dream sequence. It seems Netflix found this scene a bit unusual, as if they were questioning a child and an adult kissing passionately. However, instead of the kiss, the characters chose to dance the merengue in the final edit.
‘The Great Unknown.’
As I concluded the table read, I found myself unexpectedly moved, my eyes welling up as I spoke my final words. “This has been an unforgettable journey,” I choked out, my voice quivering with emotion. “I truly believe that this show will continue to touch hearts for generations, as long as the digital world persists.” At that moment, I was simply overwhelmed by a wave of gratitude and affection.
