‘Yellowjackets’ Breakouts Courtney Eaton, Sophie Nélisse Starring in ‘Girl in Pieces’ for the Space Program (EXCLUSIVE)

Actors Courtney Eaton and Sophie Nélisse, who gained recognition for their roles in “Yellowjackets,” are set to join forces in a movie adaptation of the book “Girl in Pieces” by Kathleen Glasgow.

In collaboration with Eaton and Nélisse, the movie will be produced jointly by The Space Program, an independent film production company situated in New York, which is helmed by Lizzie Shapiro, Lexi Tannenholtz, and Gus Deardoff.

The novel titled “Girl in Pieces” gained popularity on BookTok, TikTok’s literary community, and has consistently appeared on the New York Times Young Adult Bestseller List for over three consecutive years. This narrative focuses on Charlie Davis, a young woman who has just been discharged from a psychiatric hospital in Minnesota following a suicide attempt. After relocating to Tucson, Arizona, Charlie attempts to rebuild her life among a group of artists and musicians while confronting the lingering effects of childhood abuse, self-harm, and homelessness. Her existence is further complicated by a harmful relationship with a local musician and the return of an old friend from the psychiatric ward, who pose threats to the fragile life she’s constructing.

Apart from her role in “Yellowjackets,” Eaton has been featured in films such as “Mad Max: Fury Road,” “Newness,” and “Parachute.” Notably, “Parachute” was also produced by Shapiro of The Space Program, where she won the award for best performance at SXSW.

Nélisse gained recognition for her performances in “The Book Thief” and “Monsieur Lazhar,” as well as for acting alongside Noomi Rapace in Netflix’s “Close.” She was recently featured in the Sundance comedy, “Two Women,” and will soon be seen in “Whistle” with Dafne Keen and Sky Yang.

Other popular novels by Glasgow, apart from her bestseller, encompass “The Glass Girl”, “You’d Find Your Way Back Home”, “Learning to Befriend the Night” and the “Agathas” mystery series, collaboratively penned with Liz Lawson.

The Space Program functions as a collaborative group, prioritizing filmmakers in their production process. This announcement comes after The Space Program’s premiere at Cannes with “The Plague,” directed by Charlie Polinger and featuring Joel Edgerton. This film was shown in the Un Certain Regard section and received some of the festival’s most positive reviews. Additionally, they are currently producing “Pure,” which is Catherine Schetina’s first feature as a writer and director (known for “The Bear”), with Zoey Deutch in the leading role.

Eaton and Nélisse are managed by Creative Artists Agency (CAA) and Brillstein Entertainment Partners respectively, while Glasgow is handled by William Morris Endeavor (WME) and Massie, McQuilkin & Altman Agency.
