Doctor Doom’s Top 10 Most OP Magical Feats Revealed

For many years, Doctor Doom has been recognized as one of Marvel Comics’ mightiest and recognizable antagonists. Possessing a command over technology that rivals Mr. Fantastic and an intellect comparable to Reed Richards, Doom has proven himself to be both the greatest danger and potential savior within the Marvel universe on numerous occasions throughout his storied past. However, it is his extensive knowledge of magic that truly sets him apart. Born to a witch named Cynthia Von Doom, who perished after striking a deal with Mephisto, Doom has devoted his existence to mastering both magic and science in order to exact revenge upon Mephisto and rescue his mother.

Ever since I first encountered him in issue #5 of Fantastic Four back in 1962 (penned by Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, Joe Sinnott, Stan Goldberg, and Artie Simek), Victor Von Doom has left me spellbound with his astonishing magical exploits that make him the most potent entity across the multiverse. Currently, he’s at the pinnacle of his sorcerous prowess as the reigning Sorcerer Supreme in the ongoing One World Under Doom series. This legendary antagonist has unequivocally demonstrated his formidable magical skills that place him amongst the ranks of titans like Doctor Strange and Scarlet Witch.

Doom will never give up on saving his mother

Victor von Doom’s mom, Cynthia, was a witch who spent her childhood in a Romani encampment on the edge of Latveria. After her death from a pact with Mephisto, young Victor committed himself to studying both science and magic, aiming to rescue his mother one day. Once he had perfected both fields, Doom used his intellect to exact revenge upon the devil. In Astonishing Tales #8 (penned by Gerry Conway, Gene Colan, Tom Palmer, and Jean Izzo), it’s disclosed that every Midsummer Eve night, Doom calls forth Mephisto for a fierce battle across Latveria in exchange for his mother’s soul.

Year after year, Doom encounters a standoff with the devil and his horde of demons, not because he loses these battles, but rather due to each confrontation ending in a draw. This annual battle against the devil is no ordinary skirmish, and the fact that Doom manages to return each time tells us much about his proficiency in the mystic arts. Moreover, it underscores his unwavering determination and devotion to mastering sorcery, as he continually trains to enhance his magical prowess for their upcoming annual clash.

Doom and Strange have had a long and complicated history

1989’s “Doctor Strange and Doctor Doom: Triumph and Torment” (written by Roger Stern, Mike Mignola, Mark Badger, and Jim Novak) features a scenario where both Doctor Strange and Doctor Doom are called upon for a competition by the Vishanti to determine the next Sorcerer Supreme. In this contest, Doom finishes in second place, but due to the Vishanti’s decree, Strange is compelled to grant any request made by Doom. As his reward, . After battling countless demons and vanquishing Mephisto, Doom manages to liberate his mother by causing her to detest him, purifying her soul, and enabling it to rise to heaven.

From an early age, Doom demonstrated remarkable skill as a sorcerer; however, his partnership with Strange significantly elevated him to one of the world’s most formidable magic users. Although Doom initially fell short in their struggle for Sorcerer Supreme, he surpassed all other contenders sanctioned by the Vishanti and expanded his understanding of mystic arts through Strange’s tutelage. Despite their tumultuous history, this joint adventure served as a stepping stone for Doom to achieve even greater magical prowess in the future.

Doom writes one of his greatest wrongs

Following the AXIS event, Doom and the Scarlet Witch enchanted Genosha, causing a reversal of moral values among its inhabitants in their fight against the Red Onslaught. After undergoing a transformation into a selfless individual, Doom went back to Latveria to rectify past mistakes, but was trailed by an increasingly malevolent Scarlet Witch. Anticipating this, Doom concocted a scheme with his niece, Valeria, to gather a group of Avengers and lure the Scarlet Witch into an ambush. The plan was executed, and Doom utilized some of Wanda’s powers to resurrect Cassie Lang, who he had previously (by Allan Heinberg, Jim Cheung, Mark Morales, Justin Ponsor, and Cory Petit).

As a gamer immersed in the Marvel universe, I’ve got to say, the powers of the Scarlet Witch are almost boundless. It’s mind-blowing just thinking about Doom being able to handle even a sliver of that power, which really speaks volumes about his mastery of the mystic arts.

After managing to bring Cassie back from the dead, Doom vanished into another dimension, where he also brought Doctor Voodoo back to life. Now, I’m no stranger to Doom wielding the chaos magic of the Scarlet Witch, but resurrecting Cassie showcased his command over ancient magic and his knack for using it for good.

The Latverian ruler sets sights on Wakanda

In the 2018 Doomwar storyline (by Jonathan Maberry, Andy Lanning, Robert Campanella, Scot Eaton, Jean-Francis Beaulieu, and Cory Petit), Doom uncovered the mystical properties of Vibranium and embarked on a quest to amass all of Wakanda’s valuable reserves. With his ability to imbue Vibranium with magic, Doom crafted a new suit from this enchanted metal, significantly enhancing his powers. Even the combined might of Earth’s superheroes proved insufficient to thwart Doom, ultimately compelling T’Challa to implement an emergency measure that rendered all Wakandan Vibranium devoid of its unique abilities and rendered it useless.

As a die-hard fan, I can’t help but marvel at how Doctor Doom, in one of his most daring attempts, may have outdone himself this time. His ingenious use of Vibranium, that ancient meteorite fragment spread across the Earth after its impact on Wakanda, has granted him an unprecedented level of control. On a subatomic scale, he’s connected to every speck of Vibranium, effectively making the Earth itself his personal playground. This newfound power has catapulted Doom into one of his strongest forms yet. He boldly proclaimed that not even the Power Cosmic or the Cosmic Cube can match the might he now wields thanks to Vibranium’s enigmatic properties.

The Last Annihilation was Doom’s victory

During the cataclysmic event known as the Last Annihilation, Doom, accompanied by Sister Talinois and the Brethren of Forgotten Flame, performed a spell to let Dormammu take control over Ego the Living Planet. Empowered by this possession, Dormammu unleashed his destructive campaign across the universe. In the ensuing battle, Doom found himself joining forces with the Guardians of the Galaxy in their valiant effort to halt Dormammu and save the cosmos. To vanquish Dormammu, Doom employed his Doombots to siphon all the magical energy from Dormammu’s Chitauri army, creating a powerful circle that drained Dormammu of his power.

Although Dormammu seemed to have been vanquished and the universe preserved, this turn of events was orchestrated by Doom himself as a means to acquire the powers of the Dark Dimension for the impending “Reckoning War”. Enhancing his armor with the mystical energy of Dormammu amplified Doom’s magical prowess significantly. As beings from dimensions of pure magic, even a small fraction of Dormammu’s power would be sufficient to counter any sorcerer. Bolstering his existing expertise in dark arts with this additional power made Doom an even greater force to reckon with.

Victor once again uses the world’s plight for his own gains

In the storyline titled “Fantastic Four: Reckoning War” (written by Dan Slott, Rachael Stott, Andrea Di Vito, Jesus Aburtov, and Joe Caramagna), an old band of warlords called the Reckoning emerged from their exile across the galaxy to seek vengeance on their age-old adversaries, the Watchers. Simultaneously, Doom was devising a strategy to prevent this impending conflict and decided to enlist the aid of a potent entity named Cormorant, who was being manipulated by the enigmatic Helmsman. Having previously encountered and clashed with Cormorant in “Fantastic Four” #25 (also written by Dan Slott, R.B. Silva, Jesus Aburtov, and Joe Caramagna), Doom managed to trick him towards the Nexus of all realities and utilized the sorcery he had obtained from Dormammu to subdue Cormorant and dissolve the Helmsmen.

First, Coromorant was released from captivity by Doom, and he chose to remain loyal to him. Doom deemed Coromorant one of the most formidable beings he had ever met, with technology older than the universe itself and an infinite source of power. Victor’s victory over this ancient warrior was no trivial feat, securing for him a potent ally dedicated to his objectives. Additionally, during the Reckoning, Doom documented every event, amassing extensive knowledge about The Watcher’s technology to construct his own Everlasting Gate – a portal connecting every location across space and time.

Doom’s first experience with godhood

In the comic book titled “Avengers: Children’s Crusade“, Wiccan started losing command over his abilities, prompting him and the youthful Avengers to join forces with Magneto and Quicksilver in a quest to locate Scarlet Witch. The group followed her trail to Latveria, where Wiccan uncovered that his mother had lost her powers and memory, preparing to wed Doom. Upon Wanda’s recovery of her memories, she endeavored to make amends by undoing the spell responsible for M-Day, but this was thwarted by Patriot, effectively halting her attempt.

Under the might of the Cosmic Energy, Doom gained unlimited power and decided to rectify past mistakes by assuming global leadership. During battles with the Avengers and X-Men, he managed to heal Cyclops’ power control issues and promised to resurrect all mutants if they agreed to submit to his rule. However, even while wielding Cosmic Energy, Doom was eventually toppled by his own insatiable hunger for power.

Doom loves nothing more than power

Following Doom’s assistance in rescuing Valeria from perishing during childbirth, Victor was named her godfather. He covertly cast a spell connecting them for life, making her his familiar. Inspired by Valeria’s birth, Doom struck a bargain with a trio of demons to acquire magical powers that he would have possessed if he had chosen magic over science. As part of this agreement, Doom gave up the only woman he ever cared for deeply; using her skin, he crafted a new mystical armor to harness his newfound abilities.

As a devotee, I can’t help but marvel at Victor von Doom’s latest exploits with sorcery. He managed to imprison Franklin Richards in the depths of hell, torment the Fantastic Four, and even use Valeria as an extension to spy on them and communicate through her. In the storyline “One World Under Doom,” he even claimed the title of Sorcerer Supreme, showcasing his peak magical prowess. During this phase, he demonstrated the extent of his magical capabilities, easily overpowering The Fantastic Four and Doctor Strange if not for the demons that returned to drag him back to hell. This wasn’t just a display of Victor’s most potent magic, but also a testament to the boundless potential of Doom in his relentless pursuit of power.

Victor von Doom finally obtains absolute power

Following a devastating attack on Latveria in 2013’s “New Avengers” #6 (written by Jonathan Hickman, with art by Steve Epting, Rick Magyar, Frank D’Armata, and Joe Caramagna), Doctor Doom embarks on a journey to uncover the source of these destructive events and save the Multiverse from collapse. Upon encountering the Beyonders, Doom, along with Doctor Strange and Molecule Men from various universes, annihilated these omnipotent beings and transferred their power into the last remaining Molecule Man. This transfer bestowed immense powers onto Doom himself. Subsequently, after the final incursion between Earth-1610 and Earth-616,…

For eight years, Victor Doom held supreme power over Battleworld as its god-like ruler, a position he wielded with terrifying might and the ability to manipulate cosmic entities according to his whims. This God Doom displayed unparalleled displays of power, such as transforming Johnny Storm into the world’s sun, annihilating the Phoenix, dismembering Thanos at the skeletal level, and effortlessly crushing an Infinity Gauntlet in his hands. At the pinnacle of his prowess in both science and magic, God Doom stood alone among Marvel Comics characters as one of the few who could harness such immense powers, even surpassing the limits that Doctor Strange himself found impossible to manage.

There’s a new Sorcerer Supreme in town

During Marvel’s Blood Hunt event, an old vampire deity enshrouded the world in Darkforce energy, giving control of the Marvel Universe to vampires. When Doctor Strange was transformed into a vampire, he and Clea enlisted Doctor Doom’s aid to cast a spell to dismantle the Darkforce barrier. Doom consented, but only on the condition of being named Sorcerer Supreme, a title he would relinquish once the world was saved.

However, after Doom successfully destroyed the Darkforce dome with assistance from Strange Academy students, he chose to retain the title as Sorcerer Supreme for himself. Claiming that the world remained in peril, Doom seized power and became the new Sorcerer Supreme.

As the story of Doctor Doom as Sorcerer Supreme continues to unfold in the comic series “One World Under Doom” (written by Ryan North, R.B. Silva, David Curiel, and Travis Lanham), he has already demonstrated some remarkable magical abilities. In his relatively brief tenure as master of the mystic arts, Doom has managed to establish global peace, universal healthcare, education, and eradicated Hydra – accomplishments that even Reed Richards has not achieved on multiple occasions. In issue #2 of “One World Under Doom,” we see something that eluded Strange and the Avengers. Despite his rule being rooted in intimidation and superiority, Doom is using his position as Sorcerer Supreme to bring about changes that neither Strange nor the Avengers could achieve. This makes him a more powerful sorcerer than Strange in many ways, although his twisted moral compass may be his undoing.
