Quinta Brunson Reveals Shocking Truth About Abbott Teachers in Sunny Crossover!

Previously this year, viewers of sitcoms were delighted with a unique crossover spectacle between two of Hulu’s funniest shows: “Abbott Elementary” and “It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia.” Although they are both based in Philadelphia, the commonalities stop there. The initial segment of the event was broadcasted in January as part of the 2025 TV lineup, within an episode of “Abbott,” while the subsequent piece unfolds on “Sunny.” Creator of “Abbott,” Quinta Brunson, recently hinted at how the teachers from her show will act differently when they appear on “Sunny,” which I hadn’t previously considered.

The makers of “Abbott Elementary”, including Quinta Brunson, recently participated in a panel discussion for IndieWire’s “Pass The Remote” series, collaborating with Disney. During the Q&A session held on May 20th, they were asked about the potential second crossover between the two Philadelphia-based shows, specifically during “It’s Always Sunny”‘s Season 17. In a TikTok clip, Brunson hinted that fans of “Abbott Elementary” should be ready for some surprising actions from their beloved elementary school teachers on screen.

Understand that our teachers adjust their behavior for our documentary, just like everyone does. They strive to present their best selves when the camera is on, but when they’re away from the documentary crew, you’ll see a completely different side of each individual at Abbott.

If you share my enthusiasm for both shows, you might have pondered how the upcoming TV event would harmonize the family-friendly vibe of Abbott Elementary with the often explicit content of It’s Always Sunny. Having two episodes, one for each series yet featuring all characters together, seems like a smart move. Interestingly enough, it hadn’t struck me that the Abbott team might behave quite differently without a documentary crew present. It appears we may soon find out an answer to a question many children ask: what do teachers do when they are not at school?

More on Abbott Elementary and It’s Always Sunny

Discovering that there were significant scenes removed from the Abbott Elementary and It’s Always Sunny crossover episode has left me feeling quite disappointed.

Over the course of four seasons on Abbott, we’ve seen hints of some unconventional behavior among the teachers, and I find myself especially intrigued by Melissa. With her questionable associates and no-nonsense demeanor, she seems to share a murky past with characters from Sunny. In fact, it was Melissa who identified them and unveiled their true motives within the school. It’s left me wondering if any other characters from Abbott may have encountered those from Sunny in the past.

It appears that the creators of Sunny had full control over the background details, as evidenced by Quinta Brunson’s statement during the writing process. According to her, there were very few edits between scripts for both Abbott Elementary and It’s Always Sunny, meaning that neither team interfered with the other’s work. This suggests that Brunson and her colleagues were taken aback when they received their lines and directions, as Big Mouth actress Quinta Brunson hinted at an intriguing experience. I am genuinely excited to see how this collaboration unfolds after hearing about it.

I found it incredibly enjoyable. I participated in it, delivered my lines, and upon watching it, I exclaimed, ‘Wow, that’s amazing!’ Indeed, it was a lot of fun.

Leaving my comedic queen momentarily at a loss for words is quite an accomplishment, but if anyone can manage it, it’s the lively bunch from Paddy’s Pub. I can hardly wait to witness the clash between the Sunny gang and the Abbott teachers – no holds barred! The co-creators and stars of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Rob McElhenney, Charlie Day, and Glenn Howerton, have been relentlessly wreaking havoc on the characters of Sunny for close to 17 seasons, and I’m certain they’ve got a world of chaos brewing for the faculty at Abbott Elementary.
