General tips for any Sims 4 career
Pick an active, self-employment, or rabbit hole job
In The Sims 4, there are three primary categories of careers. Many involve rabbit hole jobs, where your characters go offscreen to work without much player interaction. However, there are also active careers, which allow you to accompany your sim to their workplace and participate in various tasks. Alternatively, you can manage these as rabbit hole jobs if that’s your preference. Lastly, there are self-employment and freelance careers where your sim performs tasks at home, such as writing a book, painting a picture, or building furniture, all independently.
Do well in school
High school students who excel academically by achieving good grades will find themselves at a career advantage in any professional path they choose. A B average places them at the second level within every occupation their simulation character enters, while an A grade allows them to begin at the third rung. Similarly, certain college degrees can boost both your initial position and overall performance; we’ll highlight those options below.
Get career-related reward perks
Throughout your lifetime ambitions, you can acquire certain benefits that will significantly boost any career path you choose. The Professional Slacker (worth 4000 reward points) ensures you’ll never face job loss or demotion due to poor performance, providing a safety net in your professional life. Furthermore, the Connections trait (also worth 4000 points) grants you an advantage by starting any career three levels higher than usual, stacking with any bonuses earned during high school or college. Lastly, the Savant perk (again, 4000 points) increases all skill gains by 25%, which is beneficial as many jobs require specific skills for promotions.
Actually do the job
Generally speaking, your sim’s job will provide instructions on what actions are necessary to progress or excel within the position. This often involves completing assignments outside work hours (think of these as homework) or enhancing specific skills to secure a promotion. The details of these requirements can be found in the career section located at the bottom right corner of the screen. Additionally, active careers may assign random tasks for your sims during office hours. Neglecting to complete some of these daily tasks could result in earning minimal income.
Work overtime
Certain positions offer the flexibility for your character to work an additional two hours beyond their regular work schedule. This extension not only enhances their work efficiency but also rewards them with extra compensation. Utilizing this option whenever possible can significantly accelerate your professional growth.
In addition to that, it’s crucial to enhance the necessary skills for each profession and ensure your character is in an optimal mood for work whenever feasible. To assist you with this task, below you will find a list of all the normal and active careers in The Sims 4, including details about the relevant skills, ideal moods, and suitable college degrees. Adhere to this guide, and your sim will be earning plenty of money and vacation time swiftly, no matter which career they choose.
