Recently, fresh promotional designs for James Gunn’s DC reboot unveiled three unique logos representing new members of his Justice League team. Although a standalone Justice League film under Gunn’s new direction for the DC universe hasn’t been confirmed yet, he’s been giving fans a sneak peek into his concept for this iconic superhero squad. This summer, you can catch the first appearance of this costumed crew in the upcoming “Superman” movie, featuring fan favorites like Green Lantern, Hawkgirl, and Mister Terrific from the comic books.
James Gunn’s DC reboot will reveal sneak peeks at new logos for some longstanding Justice League superheroes. Although the classic team won’t appear in the upcoming movie Superman, a similar group known as the Justice Squad will be featured instead. The DC blockbuster introduces fans to this new squad, which consists of characters from the original Justice League comic book team creating their own team without referencing the World’s Finest.
User Mikhail Villarreal recently unveiled a fresh perspective of the Justice League hero emblems. Notably, these designs hint at the Superman-inspired imagery for Nathan Fillion’s Green Lantern, Isabela Merced’s Hawkgirl, and Edi Gathegi’s Mister Terrific.
For each member of the Justice Gang, the emblems do not introduce new designs but rather stick to classic appearances reminiscent of their original comic book characters.
For each logo, there’s a stylishly drawn comic-like character sketch, depicting how each major DC figure might appear in a DC comic strip.
Indeed, it seems logical that the movie version of Guy Gardner/Green Lantern would feature a conventional lantern insignia, much like the one you see in the comics. This logo would be a straightforward circle with distinct lines at its top and bottom, mirroring the classic look of the hero’s emblem on the comic book pages.
As a movie reviewer, I find that the logo for Hawkgirl’s upcoming film has undergone a subtle yet impactful transformation compared to her comic book version. The emblematic Superman logo, too, has received a slight makeover. The eye of the icon has been opened a bit more, while the hawk head has been extended, giving it a stretched appearance. This modification lends a more organic feel to the logo, making the distinctive features appear less cramped and allowing them to express themselves more freely.
In comic books, Mister Terrific’s emblem is typically a straightforward red T with a black border. However, this design has been altered to incorporate sharp accents at the bottom of the letter, giving it a resemblance to Black Widow’s symbol from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as portrayed by Scarlett Johansson.
On July 11, 2025, the much-anticipated film starring Superman will grace the big screen, representing James Gunn’s debut in his interconnected DC Universe. This upcoming David Corenswet-led blockbuster primarily revolves around the legendary Man of Steel, yet it promises to immerse viewers in a universe teeming with DC superheroes. Notable figures like Metamorpho (Anthony Carrigan), Rick Flag (Frank Grillo), and even Supergirl (Milly Alcock) are expected to make an appearance.
The Justice League’s DCU Future
Although the prospect of the Justice League appearing in Superman is thrilling, it’s important to note that this isn’t quite the adaptation that fans have eagerly anticipated from James Gunn and the creative minds behind the DC Universe.
In reality, they won’t go by the name Justice League. Instead, the team consisting of Hawkgirl, Green Lantern, and Mister Terrific will be recognized as the Justice Squad. Unlike the traditional self-governing group of powerful superheroes we’re accustomed to, this team is financially supported by corporations.
In the world depicted in Superman, it appears that superheroes are quite prevalent. As a result, ambitious entrepreneur Maxwell Lord, portrayed by Sean Gunn in the forthcoming movie, has put together a group of superheroes, supposedly for global protection purposes.
Although it may not persist for too long in the DC Universe, the current state won’t hold forever. The arrival of Superman on the scene will eventually lead to the formation of the official Justice League (for further insights into James Gunn’s potential Justice League film, check out this article).
As a cinephile immersed in the DC universe, it seems fitting that the conclusion of this initial chapter, titled “Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters,” serves as a powerful culmination of the first wave of films and series. This epic finale brings together iconic figures such as Superman, Batman, and another Green Lantern outside of Guy Gardner, marking a significant milestone in the on-screen DC storytelling saga.
