The interest in Nintendo’s latest conventional controller has led several retailers to run out of stock before its release. As the Switch 2 is due in two weeks, pre-orders for the Pro Controller can still be made at Target and GameStop.
Based on where you reside, you might have a chance to reserve an in-store, launch-day pickup at Best Buy for the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller. Unfortunately, Walmart is out of stock for this controller and it seems unlikely that they will restock before the controller’s (and console’s) release on June 5.
Attention: If you want to buy additional Joy-Con 2 Controllers, it’s best to be patient and wait until the official release. At this point, no retailers have listed pre-order options for pairs or individual Joy-Con 2 Controllers that are available for purchase.
Even though the new Switch 2 Pro Controller and themed controllers catch the eye, existing Switch owners should remember that many of their current controllers are compatible with the Switch 2. The console is designed to be backward-compatible not only with games but also accessories. Most first-party and officially licensed Switch controllers should function smoothly on the new console. If you have a preferred Bluetooth controller, it should work flawlessly. Controllers that utilize 2.4GHz dongles might face inconsistencies depending on the manufacturer, but major accessory brands like 8BitDo are unlikely to cause any issues.
If you’re looking for a more affordable option than the Switch 2 Pro Controller, you might want to explore the 8BitDo Ultimate 2 Bluetooth Controller instead. This controller is currently the top choice for both the Nintendo Switch and Switch OLED models, regardless of cost. Introduced earlier this year, the Ultimate 2 Bluetooth is an advanced version of 8BitDo’s premium controller series.

It’s not clear if the Bluetooth 2 will be compatible with Switch 2 using 2.4GHz wireless, but both Bluetooth and wired connections are expected to work smoothly.
