Before diving into the exciting parts of late night shows, I’d like to voice my thoughts on how these programs can improve and push boundaries. For instance, I wish Lisa Gilroy could pierce her ears during her hosting stint on After Midnight. Are sanitation concerns really a barrier? After all, Lisa guest hosted After Midnight recently, and she shared that she had wanted to pierce her ears on TV but CBS wouldn’t allow it. Meanwhile, Jason Schwartzman pierced his ear on The Tonight Show this past August, and Seth Meyers got a tattoo during an episode of Late Night with Dua Lipa. It seems that each network has its own approach to bodily modifications, or perhaps New York is more relaxed about such matters.
I’d like to give a shout-out to transit reporter and L.A. expert Alissa Walker on this week’s Everybody’s Live With John Mulaney. It’s disappointing that she wasn’t given more opportunities to discuss the impact of bus/bike lanes in L.A., as opposed to Natasha Lyonne’s thoughts about them in New York. It feels like the scenario where we had two renowned dinosaur experts (the consultant for Jurassic Park and Chuck Tingle) on a show, but they were dismissed due to the majority of callers being misinformed. However, her appearance was still impressive. Now let’s move on to the top five.

Busy Philipps and Michelle Williams Relive 2017

Regarding the Oscars controversies that have arisen recently, the Moonlight/La La Land mix-up caused fewer problems (and had a shorter lasting impact on discussions) than “The Slap.” Yet, there’s still plenty of material for creators to explore. Michelle Williams, a guest on Busy Philipps’ show in season two of Busy This Week, reminisced about their notorious Oscars date with Philipps. Williams shared that Philipps asked Ben Affleck to “do something” since he was more famous/played Batman at the time. The duo then recreated the iconic photo, as QVC+ opted not to pay for the Getty image. This just goes to show how limitations can spark creativity!

John Oliver Is Just Saying What We’re All Thinking
As a movie critic, I can’t help but express my strong conviction that the production team behind ABC’s “Doctor Odyssey” must consider renewing this captivating series. With the identity of Avery’s baby’s father yet to be unveiled and Dr. Odyssey’s landlubber brother, a character with vast potential, only recently introduced, it would be a folly not to continue exploring these intriguing plotlines.
Indeed, I must commend Oliver & Co. for consistently discovering something amusing to be enthusiastic about amidst their genuine concern for important issues. When matters become serious (and they often do), having Oliver discuss which corporate mascots are dating or other light-hearted topics, helps make the tough news more digestible.

Grandpa Jimmy Kimmel

People often commented on Johnny Carson’s late-night talk show that he was like a guest in their homes every night, which might sound strange but reflects the close bond formed through parasocial relationships. Jimmy Kimmel, as the longest-serving host of late-night television, excels at maintaining this intimate connection. On Tuesday, Kimmel shared why he wasn’t on TV the previous night: He was about to become a grandfather. Kimmel had hinted at this news during upfronts, but didn’t disclose the granddaughter’s name as part of a corporate sponsorship deal. However, he did play a prank on his aunt Chippy regarding the baby’s name and broadcast it for his TV audience to enjoy. This shows Kimmel’s dedication to his comedic craft.

Lisa Really Likes the Buzzer

Above all, I yearn to watch people on late-night shows simply enjoying themselves. My mirror neurons respond, causing me to feel as if I’m joining in the fun myself. Lisa Gilroy, the guest host of After Midnight, seemed to be having an absolute blast managing the points buzzer, and that exuberance was contagious. It’s moments like these, when they disregard the rules of the game for the sheer pleasure of pressing a button, that I will miss when After Midnight ends – the unbridled joy and carefree spirit it brings.
Move Over, Terry Gross. It’s Jin’s Turn

In the distant future, the contemporary equivalent of George Clooney will transition to a Broadway performance, focusing on the influential journalist from BTS, Jin, who challenged authority. Jin is probing deeply, essentially wondering: Isn’t it curious to consider whether we possess one or two butts? Jimmy Fallon echoed mainstream opinions that we have one, but Jin refuted this claim. Since we have a left and right leg, it seems reasonable to assume we also have a left and right butt—a thought-provoking concept.
The situation leading to this event leaves me utterly amazed. Picture yourself at HYBE Entertainment and asking, “Given the ongoing NewJeans lawsuit matter, would Jin be open to discussing his posterior on Jimmy Fallon’s show?” Or perhaps it was the other way around. It could be that this idea has been a persistent curiosity for Jin since he discovered that ‘ass’ is singular in English, despite its two cheeks. Imagine having just enough knowledge of a second language to ask such a question live on television. All week, I couldn’t help but dwell on this thought.
