Switch Online’s Game Boy Collection Adds Four Games, Including A Classic Kirby Title

Today, May 23rd, Nintendo has unveiled four fresh titles joining the Game Boy collection on their Nintendo Switch Online service. These include Kirby Star Stacker, Survival Kids, Gradius: The Cosmic Conflict, and The Sword of Hope.

Among all the notable additions, Kirby Star Stacker stands out as the most prominent one. First introduced by HAL Laboratory in 1997, it is a puzzle game that shares similarities with Tetris Attack or Pokemon Puzzle League. In this game, players align blocks resembling characters like Rick, Coo, and Kine from Kirby’s Dream Land 2. The Super Famicom version of the game was made available on Nintendo Switch Online in 2023, but now even the original release is accessible through Nintendo’s subscription service.

This month, Survival Kids stands out as it’s a well-known franchise preparing for a revamp on Nintendo Switch 2. Originally, Survival Kids was a cult favorite where players had to survive on a deserted island. If you appreciate modern survival games, they have a significant debt to pioneering titles like Survival Kids that established many of the genre’s mechanics. Although the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 version of Survival Kids seems to be a more lighthearted, cooperative take on the series, it’s delightful that the original Game Boy edition is now accessible through Switch Online.

Fans of the Game Boy can look forward to enjoying the two additional games arriving on Nintendo Switch Online as well. Gradius: The Interstellar Assault offers a strong adaptation of Konami’s iconic arcade shoot ’em up, originally made for the Game Boy. On the other hand, The Sword of Hope is an ambitious yet less popular RPG designed for the Nintendo handheld console.

These four games – Kirby Star Stacker, Survival Kids, Gradius: The Interstellar Assault, and The Sword of Hope – can now be played on your Nintendo Switch via the Nintendo Switch Online service.
