In 2019, developers from 1047 games introduced Splitgate – a fast-paced multiplayer first-person shooter (FPS). Drawing inspiration from well-known titles like Quake or Unreal, its unique feature is the use of portals, similar to those in Valve’s Portal series. Although it didn’t retain many players, positive reviews on Steam prompted a sequel, Splitgate 2, which recently entered Open Beta. Continuing as a free-to-play game, it boasts improved graphics. However, the server infrastructure seems to be struggling to accommodate the influx of players, resulting in “Unexpected Errors” for many during login attempts, making it impossible to play the game. We’ll keep an eye on what the development team has to say and when they expect to resolve this issue.
Unexpected Errors in Splitgate 2 explained
Similar to its predecessor in the series, Splitgate 2 commenced in a trial phase. Unlike the initial release which premiered through Steam Early Access, the latest one opted out of this program and instead launched in Open Beta. This decision can be attributed to the fact that the servers were not equipped to handle the surge of players eager to experience this high-speed shooter. Consequently, numerous players have encountered “Unexpected Error” messages or other technical difficulties while attempting to access the game. To clarify, these issues arise due to the unprecedented demand and the system’s inability to accommodate it effectively at present.
Based on updates shared on Splitgate’s official Discord channel, the servers have been deliberately shut down temporarily for crucial maintenance tasks, such as bug fixing and enhancements to ensure stability. At present, the developers are still engaged in this process, but an estimated duration is not available yet. To keep yourself informed about the developers’ updates, I recommend checking out the “announcements” channel on their Discord server or following Splitgate’s Twitter account (@Splitgate_X).
Furthermore, the developers assure you that if you’ve bought anything related to this item, your products will be delivered promptly. They’ve also acknowledged that there have been problems with Twitch Drops. If you watched eligible streams but didn’t receive any rewards, now you understand the reason behind it. The team is looking into these issues and promises that if you’ve claimed items on Twitch, you will receive what you are owed.
As a gamer, I know that beta phases and testing periods are there to squash as many bugs as possible, so glitches are bound to happen. Regrettably, it didn’t stop the production of 1047 games from impacting their review scores on Valve’s platform in a negative way. Here’s hoping that once all obstacles are overcome, many of those negatives will transform into positive recommendations and the game will flourish, providing countless hours of unbridled enjoyment. May the best player win!
