The Elden Ring Movie Gets Its First Player: Director Alex Garland

Film director Alex Garland, known for his work on Warfare and Civil War, has ventured into a new, ominous setting: video game adaptations. In collaboration with A24, he will pen and direct the live-action adaptation of Bandai Namco’s popular title, Elden Ring. With his background in video game writing and a cinematic style reminiscent of MMORPGs, Garland is an ideal fit for this project. The original video game, co-created by George R.R. Martin and Hidetaka Miyazaki, offers an open-world third-person experience, allowing players to explore six distinct regions within the Lands Between and delve into dungeons, catacombs, and beyond. Released in 2022, it garnered Game of the Year accolades and sold over 30 million copies worldwide.

The team behind the upcoming project consists of Peter Rice, Andrew Macdonald, Allon Reich, George R.R. Martin, and Vince Gerardis. As the film is currently in the early stages of development, casting details haven’t been announced yet. However, considering Bradley Garland’s past work, it seems Oscar Isaac might want to make some schedule adjustments.
