It appears that the legend of the Fountain of Youth may run deeper than one might think, as it was this elusive artifact that landed John Krasinski and Natalie Portman in a bit of a dramatic scenario during filming. To clarify, they didn’t actually drown within the waters of the legendary fountain itself, but they certainly found themselves embroiled in Guy Ritchie’s impending action-mystery flick titled “Fountain of Youth.”

The movie’s narrative revolves around two siblings – Charlotte, a museum curator portrayed by Natalie Portman, and Luke, a treasure hunter embodied by John Krasinski. Their quest is to discover the fabled Fountain of Youth, with financial backing from a wealthy benefactor. Interestingly, it’s not just these two characters who receive substantial funding – the hunt for the mythical artifact draws many others into the game as well.

It appears that Ritchie spared no expense or effort in creating stunning sets for Apple TV+’s high-budget production, which featured Krasinski and Portman executing thrilling stunts. The series, described as a fusion of classic adventure stories like Indiana Jones and National Treasure, dares to lead actors and viewers into uncharted territory with Fountain of Youth. Directed by the same person behind The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, this modern take on Indiana Jones didn’t shy away from including edge-of-your-seat stunts; however, it seems that Portman and Krasinski weren’t fully prepared for a simulated drowning scene filmed within a fully submerged ship set.

In Ritchie’s account, Charlotte and Luke embark on a pursuit of the legendary Fountain of Youth. Initially, they dive to the wreckage at the ocean floor using advanced technology to momentarily lift it for inspection. However, the ship can’t remain above water indefinitely. During their search, the ship starts sinking as massive sea waves drag it back underwater, along with Portman and Kransinski. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Portman described this underwater stunt where they almost drowned.

On camera, we found ourselves submerged. Fortunately, we had wetsuits with some buoyancy which proved useful. The situation was exhilarating… We recall thinking, ‘It seems we won’t need to fully immerse ourselves.’ Instead, we anticipated just going up to our shoulders and briefly dipping our heads underwater. Suddenly, we were engulfed in a full scuba diving tank experience. It was astounding!
