It’s Silent Hill, but not that Silent Hill. Konami finally admitted Silent Hill F isn’t a sequel.
According to Konami’s official statement, Silent Hill f is not a continuation of previous games like Downpour or Homecoming, but rather an entirely independent spinoff. So if you were anticipating that it would resolve the plot threads left unfinished in those games, I’m sorry to say that your expectations might need to be adjusted.
In the 1960s, nestled in rural Japan, I found myself immersed in a world far removed from the familiar misty American town of Silent Hill that fans like me have grown to fear. This time, we meet Hinako Shimizu, a tormented schoolgirl, dealing with bullying, missing friends, and eerie fog, not to mention an overabundance of flowers blooming in the most unusual manners.
The unsettling psychological terror, the chilling ambiance, and the possibility of sinister cult activities remain; however, this new narrative steers clear from the complex mythos surrounding characters like Pyramid Head.
Konami says Silent Hill f is “independent of the series”
Konami made it official on X, saying:
This standalone game doesn’t require prior knowledge of the Silent Hill series. Newcomers as well as veterans can equally appreciate it.
The Silent Hill series began in 1999, offering a chilling experience filled with mystery, dread, and paternal conflicts, all created by Team Silent. The second installment, Silent Hill 2, received widespread acclaim from both critics and players. However, as time passed, the franchise saw numerous sequels, offshoots, and a gradual deterioration when control was handed over to Western production studios.
Konami is attempting to revive its brand in a Frankenstein-like manner by releasing a variety of titles across different universes: remakes, new narratives, and global settings. Some of these choices are shrewd (such as the Silent Hill 2 remake), while others seem unusual (I’m looking at you, Short Message). However, their most daring move might be Silent Hill f, which promises to offer fresh horror without any baggage.
As of now, there hasn’t been any announcement regarding the release date. However, given that Anime Expo is scheduled for July in Los Angeles, we could potentially receive our next intriguing hint soon.
