In the taut Cold War thriller “Billion Dollar Spy,” Claes Bang portrays a KGB officer. This nail-biting drama boasts Academy Award-winning actor Russell Crowe and Harry Lawtey, known for their work on “Industry,” as its headliners.

Under the guidance of BAFTA-winning director Amma Asante (“A Way of Life”), this movie is a joint production between Walden Media and Weed Road Pictures.

Currently being filmed in Budapest, “Billion Dollar Spy” is based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning book by David E. Hoffman with the same title. It tells the real-life story of Soviet spy Adolf Tolkachev. The screenplay was written by Ben August (“Class Rank,” “Remember”) and Academy Award-winner Stephen Gaghan (“Traffic”). Last week, EbMaster unveiled a sneak peek of the movie as the Cannes market began.

In this role, Crowe portrays Tolkachev, a crucial figure within the CIA during the Cold War. Fed up with the Soviet government, Tolkachev bravely smuggled out countless documents filled with highly classified information to the U.S.

Crowe takes on the character of Tolkachev, an important ally of the CIA throughout the Cold War. Disenchanted with the Soviet regime, Tolkachev made the dangerous decision to leak thousands of pages containing top-secret intelligence to the United States.

In Moscow Station, Lawtey assumes the role of his CIA supervisor, with Vera Farmiga, Willa Fitzgerald, Tony Goldwyn, Rufus Sewell, and Justin Theroux making up the rest of the ensemble.

Frank Smith, Benjamin Tappan, and Cher Hawrysh from Walden Media are teaming up with Akiva Goldsman and Greg Lessans from Weed Road Pictures to produce this project. Jane Hooks acts as the executive producer, while Ildiko Kemeny, David Minkowski, and Ferenc Szále of Pioneer Stillking Films will serve as co-producers. Naia Cucukov also serves in an executive producer role.

Back in 2017, I catapulted onto the global stage with a breathtaking performance in Ruben Östlund’s critically acclaimed film “The Square”, which earned an Oscar nod and clinched the prestigious Palme d’Or at Cannes. Not only that, but my portrayal as Claes garnered me six European Film Awards, including the coveted Best Actor accolade. What a ride it’s been!

Among the notable roles credited to this actor are “William Tell,” “The Northman,” “Bonjour Tristesse,” “The Girl in the Spider’s Web,” and an upcoming project titled “Wrecking Crew.” Bang is managed by United Talent Agency (UTA) and Sharkey & Co., a talent agency based in the UK.
