In Monster Train 2, the focus is on building upon the successes of the first game by introducing more weapons, items, adversaries, and notably, factions! Since it takes a considerable amount of time to unlock all the necessary elements, we’ve prepared a tier list for Monster Train 2 highlighting the top clans in the game.
Best Factions in Monster Train 2 – Clans Tier List
Unfortunately, you won’t be able to collect them all at once; instead, expect multiple playthroughs until you gather them all. The positive aspect is that there aren’t any truly terrible clans, as each faction possesses its unique combat style. However, some perform better than others! Here is a list of Monster Train 2 factions, ranked by their success rate as primary clans, power level, and difficulty to master:
1. The Spirewatch (Successful, Powerful, Easy-to-Play)
2. The Graviton Guard (Moderately Successful, Moderate Power, Moderate Difficulty)
3. The Voidwardens (Successful, Moderate Power, Hard to Master)
4. The Cult of the Wandering Star (Moderately Successful, High Power, Very Hard to Play)
5. The Conclave of Control (Successful, Low Power, Extremely Challenging)
Tier | Clans |
---|---|
S | Underlegion, Melting Remnant |
A | Banished, Lazarus League, Luna Coven |
B | Pyreborne, Hellhorned |
C | Umbra, Stygian Guard |
D | Awoken |
Best Monster Train 2 Clans Ranked
In Monster Train 2, I’ve managed to access a total of 11 distinct clans following approximately 30 hours of gameplay. The Wurmkin clan, which was exclusive in the original version, remains undiscovered by me, should it be hidden within the game, I will subsequently incorporate it into this ranking system. As you embark on the game, you’ll find that new clans become accessible at a relatively swift pace; however, unlocking the older ones requires some patience and time.
Underlegion – Outnumber the Enemy
Avoid being deceived by Underlegion’s apparently small unit force, for no one can rival the might of Funguy troops from the mushroom realm. Your goal is to construct an ever-growing Funguy army using essential units and spells. To maximize this strategy, position a champion and the specified units on the third level, allowing them ample time to mature without interruption by adversaries.
Key Underlegion Cards:
- Cluster Colonel – Spawns 4 funguy troops each round.
- Amorous Enoki – Applies Regeneration and HP to units
- Propagate & Spawn Spells – Use them all, don’t be picky.
- Grow Room – Propagate 1 at the end of the turn gives you even more units and buffs.
- Champions – Both Bolete and Madame Lionsmane are great for building a funguy army.
Melting Remnant – Live, Die, Repeat
In the initial Monster Train game, The Melting Remnant faction stood out as the most formidable clan due to their near endless stockpile of wax units. Unlike other clans that might struggle to let go of their units, these particular ones thrive on the fact that they become even stronger when they perish, thanks to the Burnout mechanic which causes each unit to expire after a few rounds.
If you utilize this strategy effectively, you’ll consistently have your floors packed with well-prepared units that are primed to fall and resurrect in the fight. This unique tactic specializes solely in disintegrating Remnant cards, as their unconventional approach makes it challenging for others to even offer support.
Key Melting Remnant Cards:
- Waxen Spike – Adds attack and Burnout
- Dreg – Basic Burnout unit that costs 0, but is unstoppable when buffed.
- Hallowed Drippings – Applies Burnout.
- Paraffin Thug – Incredibly strong but cheap unit that earns you 30 Coins on Slay (killing an enemy).
- Champion – Rector Flicker gets an attack and HP boost every time a unit dies. He also Reforms units (buffs them and returns them to your hand).
Luna Coven – Powerful If Played Right
In the game Monster Train 2, Luna Coven is a unique faction centered around magic, featuring an engaging mechanic that links Moon phases to spell power (referred to as the Conduit mechanic). This potent group can be devastating, but it comes with a vulnerability resembling a glass cannon. To make the most of Luna Coven’s strengths and minimize its weaknesses, consider pairing it with clans that boast robust units and offensive abilities, such as Pyroborne. By doing so, you can channel your efforts into casting powerful spells while enjoying protection from durable tank units like Greed Dragon.
Key Luna Coven Cards:
- Moonlit Glaive – Most crucial equipment for your clan, as it gives your unit +3 attack for each Magic Power on the floor (and that can be a lot)
- Selene Acolyte – Improves attack based on a Magic Power in the room.
- Tidal Turning – Restores HP, and applies everything above max health to armor. Now, with a lot of Magic Power, your units will be basically indestructible.
- Champion – Ekka with Celestial Spellweaver upgrade (Conduit 6, Incant: Gain Conduit 2) is perfect for buffing Magic Power. Combine with Lunar Steward upgrade (Mooncycle: +2 att, +2 HP to friendly units) for even more damage.
Lazarus League – Mad Scientist Project
The Lazarus League is one of the factions that offers the greatest scope for strategic play. Notably, I discovered their Unstable trait, which causes units to perish and explode if their health is lower than the number of Unstable stacks, to be an extremely effective method for defeating opponents.
Key Lazarus League Cards
- Plague Doctor – Deals Unstable equal to the damage dealt. That can be a lot if you buff this unit properly.
- Test Subject Alpha – Attacks first all enemies, making sure those annoying enemies at the back are dispatched.
- Explosive Reaction – Deals damage and applies Unstable.
- Potion Kit – Mixing potions is essential to keeping your crew strong, so this equipment (weapon) is key for success.
- Acid Shower – Applies Unstable and deals damage to all enemies.
- Champion – Orechi is the best choice for the Unstable/Potion build. Use his Brewmaster (creates potions) and Mad Scientist (Incant: Applies Unstable to enemies) upgrades.
