Tina Fey Reveals the Challenges of ‘Starting From Scratch’ for The Four Seasons Season 2

In the first season of “The Four Seasons“, starring Tina Fey, garnered such positive response that it was promptly renewed for a second season on the streaming platform. Following its debut, it climbed to the top position on Netflix’s list of popular English TV shows with an impressive 24.4 million views. The series, which delves into the lives of three couples who have been friends for years after their friend group faces a shake-up due to one couple deciding to separate, currently holds a rating of 77% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Tina Fey, the show’s creator, is discussing the fresh start for season two since they’re starting anew. Interestingly, in a surprising turn of events, Steve Carell’s character Nick passes away in a car accident towards the end of the first season. It’s worth noting that Carell was part of a divorced couple; his on-screen wife was Anne, portrayed by Kerri Kenney-Silver from Reno 911. Additionally, Nick was involved with Ginny, played by Erika Henningsen, who is significantly younger than him.

Four Seasons is Inspired by an 1980s Rom Com

The show was inspired by the 1981 romantic comedy film directed by Alan Alda, co-created by Tracey Wigfield and Lang Fisher. Notably, Wigfield served as a producer on a different project with Fey, while Fisher penned an episode for the NBC sitcom, according to IMDb.

Following the approval of Season 2 by Netflix, Fey expressed her excitement about returning to the writers’ room, stating that the team has already started working on scripts for the new season. “It’s been quite enjoyable, having the same writing crew back together again. It’s been fascinating for us to reunite and swap stories, not only about the past season, but also our personal lives,” Fey shared.

In a new twist, the creators have been exceptionally open-handed – much of what you witnessed in Season 1 has clear ties to the movie, but an equal amount originates from our personal lives. Without the movie as a reference point like it was in Season 1, Fey admitted that “we are essentially starting anew.” Known as The Four Seasons, at least for its first season, this production brings Fey together with Carell once more, having starred together in the 2011 comedy film Date Night. Alongside Fey and Carell, The Four Seasons also features Will Forte, Marco Calvani, and other talented actors.
