Cricket Comedy Series ‘Strikers’ Enlists ‘Fresh Off the Boat’ Alums Josh Kirby, Jonathan Veles to Write (EXCLUSIVE)

Exclusive news: The forthcoming comedy show titled “Strikes,” which takes place within the realm of cricket, has chosen the writing duo of Josh Kirby and Jonathan Veles to write the pilot episode, as EbMaster has discovered.

The production of this series was initially announced back in February. As previously stated, it is being developed by co-creators Dana Abraham and Bobby Berk from “Queer Eye”. They are also set to appear in the series alongside Shaun Majumder and Nazanin Mandi.

Production of the series is getting ready to commence under Abraham’s Red Hill Creative label, aiming to present it to studios and potential buyers shortly. Tony Williams will work alongside Abraham as a producer, while Berk, Jacob Silvera, Majumder, and Danny Treibatch complete the executive producing team.

Abraham commented that they infuse their rich experience and top-notch humor into the distinctive tale, showing great affection for the traditions and game of cricket. Berk remarked that this duo is bold, hilarious, and have already generated memorable lines that fans will be repeating for years, enhancing the worldwide influence of our series even more.

Since then, we’ve both set sail back to land and have been an unstoppable writing duo, crafting episodes for popular sitcoms like “The Real O’Neals” and “Fresh Off the Boat.” We’ve also had the privilege of working on projects with powerhouses like Universal Television, Spectrum, and Amazon. Notably, our Sundance-selected pilot “Rock the Boat,” inspired by our real-life adventures, was a project we developed under Max, led by Greg Berlanti.

The movie ‘Strikers’ is about Amar Farooqi, a previous Major League Baseball pitcher whose career-ending injury sends him back to his South Asian heritage through the cricket field. When steel tycoon AJ Joshi (Majumder) and his media-savvy niece Maya (Mandi) enlist Amar to revive their underperforming cricket team, the Steel City Strikers, he discovers a surprising opportunity for sports success, with the help of his unsuccessful but influential manager Mickey (Berk).
