Nintendo is marketing Switch 2’s upcoming Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment as the prelude to The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. This means players can join in on the Imprisoning War, a conflict that took place in ancient Hyrule’s past. According to developer Koei Tecmo, the game will also offer more insights and details about the lore and characters from this intriguing time period.
In the Hyrule Warriors game developed by Koei Tecmo, Yosuke Hayashi revealed that it depicts events from the Imprisoning War, as hinted in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. This particular installment focuses on how the inhabitants of Hyrule faced the initial menace posed by Ganondorf.
Through the lens of the war, Age of Imprisonment delves not only into the battles of the Imprisoning War but also gives us a closer look at the kingdom of Hyrule and its daily life, particularly after Princess Zelda is sent back in time. This was clarified by Koei Tecmo producer Ryota Matsushita.
Furthermore, the game promises to reveal some enigmatic figures hailing from this era. Previously announced, King Rauru and Mineru are playable characters, while Matsushita hints that players will encounter not only these two but also the four masked sages hinted at in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
Similar to past Warriors series games, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment is an extensive action game that challenges players to face off against numerous adversaries simultaneously. This latest installment boasts a greater number of enemies on the battlefield than its predecessors, a testament to the enhanced capabilities provided by the rumored Nintendo Switch 2’s increased horsepower. In other words, thanks to the potential power of the Nintendo Switch 2, we can now incorporate more enemies into our Warriors games.
Simultaneously, ensuring smooth gameplay at faster frames than the Nintendo Switch was crucial for us. Successfully, we managed to deliver that experience with this particular game, as Hayashi explained.
The game Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment is due out in the upcoming winter season, while the Switch 2 is set to debut on June 5 with a price tag of $450. As for a special offer, Nintendo has introduced a limited-edition Mario Kart World bundle, but this deal will only be accessible until Fall 2025, priced at $500.
