RoadCraft is not working for many. The game is crashing on startup or due to Wine error

In RoadCraft currently, many individuals are operating their vehicles, but not everyone is as fortunate. Contrary to my expectations, the challenge associated with the generator wasn’t the most significant hurdle for players; instead, it appears that frequent crashes are causing more problems. Players have been reporting a high number of them, making it difficult for some to even play the game. Let’s delve into this problem and find a solution.

Crashes in RoadCraft are serious

On the Steam forum, there are numerous accounts of RoaCraft crashing. Yet, these reports lack accompanying solutions. It appears that players have yet to uncover a general remedy for this problem. Here’s what we currently understand about the issue.

  1. While on the Steam page we can read that RoadCraft on Steam Deck is “playable”, it seems that Proton users are not safe from crashes. There are numerous reports about Wine error.
  2. Many players keep getting crashes after initial screens with logos. It seems that this may be caused by shaders compilation.

What to remember and try when it comes to Roadcraft crashes:

  1. The game requires an SSD memory. So, if you installed the game on HDD this might be the culprit.
  2. Try to disable all unnecessary apps working in the background as well as overlays (Discord and Steam included).
  3. Run the game from the “exe” file in the local directory.
  4. Disable Steam input. Right-click the game in your Steam library and pick Properties. Now go to the Controller tab and in “Override for RoadCraft” use a dropdown menu and pick this option.
  5. Make sure that you have all drivers up to date.
  6. Run Steam as an administrator.
  7. It is unknown at this point if it is also caused by a known Intel problem with processors of 13th and 14th generation. However, it can’t be ruled out. So, you may have to update your BIOS.

In my gaming sessions on RoadCraft, everything has run smoothly without any crashes, but I must admit that my journey hasn’t been entirely hassle-free. Upon starting the game, my headphones tend to lose sound, which is quite inconvenient. It appears that this issue isn’t isolated to me, as my coworker encounters the same problem. He managed to resolve it using a simple technique, but I haven’t been able to find a solution for my predicament yet.
