‘Welcome to Derry’ Trailer: Pennywise Returns in ‘It’ Prequel on HBO Max

The terrifying Pennywise the Clown is back, but this time he’s haunting your TV screens.

HBO Max unveiled the inaugural teaser for “Derry Welcome,” an upcoming spin-off of the “It” franchise, scheduled to premiere this autumn.

Stepping into the chilling world of Derry once more, I find myself delving into the gripping tale that unfolds 27 years prior to the chilling events portrayed in the two “It” movies, masterfully adapted from Stephen King’s terrifying novel by director Andy Muschietti. The malevolent entity known as It thrives on the terror and lives of children, only to hibernate for a 27-year cycle. This captivating series chronicles Its bloody rampage before the events that transpired in the “It” films, promising an eerie journey into Derry’s haunting past.

Bill Skarsgard reprises his role as Pennywise, while the cast for “Welcome to Derry” also includes Taylour Paige, Jovan Adepo, Chris Chalk, James Remar, Stephen Rider, Madeleine Stowe, and Rudy Mancuso.

Bill Skarsgard will once again play Pennywise in the movie “Welcome to Derry”. Alongside him, the cast features actors like Taylour Paige, Jovan Adepo, Chris Chalk, James Remar, Stephen Rider, Madeleine Stowe, and Rudy Mancuso.

Andy Muschietti and his sister Barbara Muschietti, producers, expressed their deep affection for this book and felt there was more story left untold. They explained to Entertainment Weekly that the world of the book is so rich with characters and events that they wanted to do it justice and satisfy fans by returning to this universe. The stories they’re telling are from the interludes, written by Mike Hanlon during his investigation, which includes interviews he conducts with older townsfolk. In ‘Welcome to Derry,’ themes such as friendship, loss, and the power of collective belief, as discussed in the film, will still be present, but this story will also delve into the use of fear as a weapon, a topic that is particularly relevant today.

Welcome to Derry” is created by HBO and Warner Bros. Television. The story behind it was crafted by Andy Muschietti, Barbara Muschietti, and Jason Fuchs. Alongside these individuals, Brad Caleb Kane, David Coatsworth, Bill Skarsgård, Shelley Meals, Roy Lee, and Dan Lin serve as executive producers. Fuchs, who wrote the script for the initial episode, shares the role of co-showrunner with Kane.
