The Last Of Us Director Neil Druckmann Is Working On A Second, Unannounced Naughty Dog Game

As a passionate gamer, I’m excited to share some inside scoop! Neil Druckmann, the creative director at Naughty Dog, has revealed he’s cooking up another title alongside the already-revealed Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. While we’ve long known that the studio is juggling multiple projects (with The Last of Us Online being one they recently had to shelve), this is our first confirmation that Druckmann himself is working on something other than just Intergalactic.

Given that Druckmann has hinted at a concept for The Last of Us III and mentioned there might be “one more chapter” in the story, it’s not too far-fetched to assume this second game could be another installment in The Last of Us series. Can’t wait to see what unfolds!

Neil Druckmann announced some major news on the Press X to Continue podcast (which was later picked up by VGC). He said: “There’s another project in development at Naughty Dog where I take on a more producer role, allowing me to mentor, observe another team, and offer feedback. I also get to be the decision-maker in meetings. I relish these roles, and the fact that I switch between them keeps my job interesting and never dull.

It was made clear by the lead creative director that he is at present collaborating with Matthew Gallant, Kurt Margenau, and Clair Carré on Intergalactic. Video Game Chronicle pointed out this implies that Naughty Dog still has two other key game directors who aren’t yet connected to any of their announced projects: Shaun Escayg (Uncharted: The Lost Legacy) and Anthony Newman (The Last of Us: Part II).

It seems highly likely that Neil Druckmann’s unannounced game is The Last of Us Part III. This assumption arises because Naughty Dog has indicated they are not planning to expand the Uncharted series any further, and well-known video game leakers have suggested for some time now that this game is in development.

Furthermore, Craig Mazin’s recent comments on The Last of Us, its showrunner at HBO, have added to the buzz. With the show being renewed for a third season and Mazin suggesting that a fourth season will be necessary, it raises questions given the current pace of the TV series and the amount of source material left. This combined with his earlier statement that he won’t extend the HBO series beyond the game suggests that an announcement for The Last of Us Part III might not be far off.
