Ventana Sur Returns to Buenos Aires for 17th Edition

The Ventana Sur-Río de la Plata, the largest annual gathering focusing on the film and television industry in Latin America that attracts around 3,000 attendees, will resume in Buenos Aires for its 17th installment from December 1st to the 5th, 2025.

This year’s Ventana Sur event, a partnership between the Marché du Film-Festival de Cannes, the National Institute of Cinema & Audiovisual Arts of Argentina (INCAA), and the Uruguayan Film & Audiovisual Agency (ACAU), will debut at the iconic Palacio Libertad in Buenos Aires. The venue, situated in the city’s center, will host two floors with a total of four screening rooms, each accommodating 95 attendees.

Guillaume Esmiol (Marché du Film’s executive director), Carlos Pirovano (INCAA President), and Gisela Previtali (the newly-appointed ACAU President) will jointly lead Ventana Sur as co-directors. Ralph Haiek, who served as INCAA president from 2017 to 19 and is a co-founder of Screen Capital, has been named the executive director of Ventana Sur.

Established in 2009 by INCAA and the Marché du Film, Ventana Sur has been a significant platform for many years, showcasing Latin American talents and films to European film sales agents.

2010 marked a significant influx of over 200 producers flocking to the market, eager to capitalize on surging subsidy systems in prominent Latin American markets for regional co-production. Ventana Sur emerged as an essential gathering spot during this time. With the introduction of the innovative genre forum Blood Window and the high-quality Animation! Section created in partnership with Annecy, as well as events catering to TV, documentaries, and video games, the market expertly capitalized on creative trends driven by a new generation of writers and directors, along with industry dynamics. This attracted professionals from various segments of the global audiovisual industry.

In 2024, the market experienced substantial growth when ACAU (Uruguay’s film-TV agency) joined as a co-host and the event debuted in Montevideo, Uruguay, which was well-received by attendees, forming a trio of organizers for the 2025 Rio de la Plata edition. The 2026 event will come back to Montevideo as part of a three-year agreement with INCAA.

After the remarkable achievement of the 2024 event held in Montevideo, Uruguay, going back to Buenos Aires signifies a shared dedication among the Marché du Film, INCAA, and ACAU to strengthen ties between Latin America and the international market. They aim to establish fresh avenues to boost regional voices and talents. This joint effort is evident in the collaborative development of all programs and activities, as expressed by the three partners during a statement made at Cannes on Monday.

The 2025 version will continue enhancing its commitment to nurturing new talent and strengthening relationships between Latin America and the global community, thereby reinforcing Ventana Sur as a crucial link in the international film and media industry. It was also emphasized that the 2025 edition plans to broaden its assistance for budding creators and enhance transatlantic industry ties.

Esmiol, Haiek, and Previtali informed EbMaster that the event would retain its traditional segments. They emphasized that Ventana Sur has become an essential link between Latin America and the global industry, a platform where deals are struck, new projects are unearthed, and enduring partnerships are formed. The team expressed pride in contributing their international network and knowledge to foster the growth of this distinctive event. They eagerly anticipate presenting a dynamic and influential edition in Buenos Aires. They mentioned that fresh initiatives and calls for project submissions will be unveiled at a future date.

He expressed excitement about returning Ventana Sur to Argentina for its 17th iteration. This year, under the guidance of Executive Director Ralph Haiek, we aim to take the market to unprecedented levels. We’ll be showcasing Latin American talent and bolstering our global ties, emphasizing Argentina’s role as a creative epicenter,” agreed Carlos Pirovano, INCAA President.

According to Previtali, an event like this is crucial for building ties with various film industries worldwide, which can result in joint productions, securing external funding, and opening up to fresh market opportunities.

Inviting professionals from various nations within the River Plate area demonstrates the showcasing of our experts, and it mirrors Uruguay’s enduring dedication to the development of the audio-visual industry.

Haeik stated, “Our attention will be on the movie market. This is particularly important and crucial given the current difficulties in the market, especially as it pertains to a more significant role for distributors and sales agents within the overall value chain.
