Kevin Bacon’s Show Canceled! You Won’t Believe Why!

Kevin Bacon recently spoke up about the termination of the horror series that Amazon Prime Video announced in early May, around a month after its debut.

As a movie enthusiast, I had the privilege of executive producing the gripping action-horror series created by Grainger David, while also stepping into the boots of the gruff backwoods bounty hunter, Hub Halloran. This show, airing on an Amazon-owned streamer starting May 16, weaves a blood-soaked tapestry of dark comedy and chilling horror, creating a unique mythology that is as entertaining as it is unsettling.

Kevin Bacon’s The Bondsman Has Been Cancelled by Prime Video

On May 19th, the actor-producer shared his initial thoughts about the show’s termination through social media channels, expressing perplexity regarding Amazon Prime Video’s choice.

Fans were disappointed to learn that The Bondsman won’t be returning for a second season,” the team shared. “I truly enjoyed embodying Hub Halloran and creating this show with such a talented group of people, producing that music. I wish I could provide more insight, but unfortunately, I don’t have an explanation.

“I truly appreciate each one of you who took the time to check it out and left such lovely remarks. Your kind words really mean a great deal to me. That’s how these interactions work.

“Really bummed out that The Bondsman is not coming back for a second season.”

Initially, The Bondsman was warmly received by critics, even maintaining a positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes. However, its popularity on streaming platforms didn’t follow suit. The series made a promising start, ranking at No. 9 among original content in Nielsen’s weekly top 10 streaming rankings and accumulating a total of 563 million minutes watched. Regrettably, viewership dwindled rapidly, causing it to disappear from the Nielsen chart just two weeks after its debut.

The premature cancellation of “The Bondsman” seems to have unexpectedly sparked more interest in the show. Currently, it is among the top original programs on Prime Video in the U.S., ranking second only to “Reacher” within the TV category.

The Bondsman” follows the tale of bounty hunter Hub Halloran, who is on a mission of vengeance against the criminal family that viciously attacked him. In his quest for retribution, he encounters unexpected challenges as he grapples with demon-possessed clergy, aquatic monsters, and fallen angels along the way.

In this project, Bacon took on the role of executive producer alongside Erik Oleson from ‘The Man in the High Castle’ and the renowned horror producer Jason Blum. However, ‘The Bondsman’ marks an unusual misstep for Blum, who has previously achieved great success with films such as ‘Paranormal Activity’, ‘M3GAN’, ‘Insidious’, and ‘The Purge’.

In a recent interview on Mythical Kitchen’s Last Meal, the actor shared that playing his character as a bondsman resonated with him personally, since the role was quite relatable to his own experiences.

The Bondsman Was Filmed on Location in Georgia

The Series was the Horror TV Breakthrough for Creator Grainger David

  • Grainger David previously wrote and directed the horror short films The Chair in 2012 and The Edge of the Woods in 2015.
  • Prime Video tapped David to expand his concept for The Bondsman into eight half-hour episodes in 2023.
  • Filming took place in April 2024 in Grantville, Georgia.

“I didn’t want this, I assure you,” Bacon shared. “The property owner refused to sell unless I demolished the house, as he thought it was haunted.”

He went on to say: “He brought someone over to exorcise the house of demons, but apparently he believed that didn’t work. His worry, since he resided opposite the house, was that if we moved in, we would be taken over by these spirits. In turn, the malevolent energy from our haunted home could cross the street and claim his life. Frankly, it was a dreadful predicament because I adore architecture. It was essentially a 1860s Victorian farmhouse.

The Bondsman is still available to stream worldwide on Prime Video.
