Warning: Major spoilers ahead for episode 8 of MobLand
The highly-anticipated finale of the gripping crime drama “MobLand,” airing on Paramount+, is fast approaching, promising an exhilarating climax for its inaugural season. In episode 8, a shocking turn of events significantly alters the battleground in the intensifying conflict between Harrigan and Stevenson. After Harry’s dramatic last-minute rescue of Seraphina Harrigan, abetted by the enigmatic Kat McAllister, the Harrigans regroup momentarily. Yet, Conrad swiftly seeks to leverage Brendan’s murder for a business advantage; Jaime Lopez’s treachery against Richie paves the way for Jaime and Conrad to assert control over fentanyl trafficking in London, but at the expense of another favor owed to Kat.
In the ongoing gang conflict in London, Richie found himself offered a unique chance due to an experienced player: Colin Tattersall, a former Deputy Chief Inspector from Scotland Yard, portrayed by renowned actor Toby Jones. Tattersall advises DS Fisk and DC Mukasa on their hunt for Conrad Harrigan, suggesting that the best strategy to take down a criminal family, based on his extensive career, is to form an alliance with their rivals. This leads to a meeting with Richie Stevenson himself, culminating in one of the most shocking plot twists so far in the series MobLand.
Why Richie Killed The Two Police Detectives
DS Fisk And DC Mukasa Give Offense At The Sit-down
After legitimately inquiring about who was in charge between the two agents in their suggested “sharing of assets”, a stubborn Mukasa retorts that Richie could never control them. This claim is accepted by Fisk, primarily to avoid appearing weak. However, Richie kills both of them, making certain they hear “No oneno onecontrols Richie Stevenson.” Although they arguably didn’t aid their own situation by impudently implying that Richie would be a police informant, the actual cause for their deaths lies much deeper.

Fisk and Mukasa quickly demonstrated that they were upright individuals with no intention of being suitable partners for a joint venture. Instead, they seemed more likely to cause trouble for Richie, as they planned to monitor his actions closely. Even if Richie was granted immunity from prosecution, it’s unlikely Fisk and Mukasa would stand idly by while he carried out his intended violent acts. Richie recognized that they were not viable options, but the seasoned Deputy Chief Inspector Tattersall knew how to work with people.
(Note: The phrase “play ball” is used here to indicate that Deputy Chief Inspector Tattersall knows how to cooperate or collaborate effectively with others.)
What Richie Working With Toby Jones’ Colin Means
Richie’s Resources Just Grew Significantly
After the killings of Fisk and Mukasa, Colin Tattersall leaves no doubt that he is involved in some agreement with Richie. Their history stretches back to 1975, and while Tattersall states he has imprisoned Richie on two occasions, it appears that Tattersall may have been more amicable towards Richie than a typical police inspector should be towards a ruthless criminal overlord. With Tattersall now in charge of the investigation and dealings with Richie, his main adversary now benefits from the support and resources of the London police, as well as increased operational freedom.
What Will Harry’s Two Favors To Kat Be?
Based On Context, They Could Be Disastrous For The Harrigans
According to Conrad’s explanation to Harry, it’s evident that Kat McAllister holds an exceptionally powerful position, either within a significant criminal organization or possibly a covert agency such as the CIA. Given that even an international cartel follows her orders without question, it’s safe to assume that anyone owing her a favor can expect it to be called in for something risky and illicit.
It seems evident that regardless of Kat’s specific role, she appears to be involved in transporting illegal substances like drugs, weapons, and other contraband around the world. The fact that she agreed to take half of Conrad’s fentanyl earnings merely to arrange a meeting with Jaime suggests affiliations with criminal circles rather than legitimate organizations such as the CIA. However, it wouldn’t be surprising if she were a corrupt government official either.
It’s apparent that she intends to utilize Harry for her personal business gain, and given that she’s already asked him to work with her, it’s clear she recognizes his abilities. Harry might be brought into service as a secret agent, or maybe to infiltrate another criminal network. It’s also possible that he could be expected to betray the Harrigans if Kat requires it, which could be the reason Kevin thinks helping Kat would be detrimental for the Harrigans. The secrets Kat holds will likely surface in the upcoming events of MobLand.
Why Harry Kills Freddie & Who Is Secretly Working For Richie?
Freddie Is A Loose End, And He Knows Too Much
In the TV series “MobLand,” it is revealed that Freddie, being Richie’s right-hand man, has been under Harry’s control ever since Harry acquired photos of Vron betraying Richie with Freddie. This power dynamic continues in episode 8, where Freddie meets with Harry one last time. Harry feigns a plan to seize the Harrigan crime empire, which would inevitably lead to Richie’s death. This supposed takeover gives Freddie the impression that he could potentially align himself with Harry and Kevin.
In this situation, Freddie chooses to trust them, and promptly discloses crucial information about Richie’s fentanyl operation to Harry, which Conrad then uses in collaboration with Jaime.
In a turn of events, Freddie exposed the Harrigans’ secret collaborator with Richie, who was manipulating Harry behind the scenes. This revelation led to Harry deciding to eliminate Freddie permanently, sending him plummeting from the building to his demise. Put simply, Freddie had outlived his usefulness and became a loose end that needed to be tidied up, hence the quick trip down on the express elevator.
It appears extremely likely that Maeve has been collaborating with Richie throughout this time. Her phone call revealing Brendan and Seraphina’s location in Antwerp could seem quite reckless, unless she had been working with him prior, genuinely convinced he would spare Brendan. This scenario also explains why Richie didn’t disclose Maeve’s call at the end of episode 7. If she had been aiding him up until then, it would serve Richie’s interests to keep Maeve as an insider within the Harrigan household while he tries to undermine Conrad.
Who Is The Other Brother Maeve Mentions
Kevin’s Reaction Could Be The Clue To His Identity
Although Conrad has occasionally referred to Harry as his “son” due to his unwavering loyalty, Kevin’s reaction when Maeve addresses him as her “other brother” suggests a different relationship. As he is about to lash out at Maeve for even suggesting it, they are interrupted by Eddie’s cheerful entrance, causing Maeve to raise an eyebrow at Kevin. The “other brother” Maeve refers to could be Eddie, who is not biologically related to Kevin but is the son of Conrad and Bella, a woman with whom Conrad had a relationship before Kevin married her.
What Is Kevin Planning For Rusby?
Kevin Almost Certainly Has Murderous Intent
It’s evident in episode 8 that Kevin is relentlessly chasing after the address of the ex-prison guard Rusby, and his actions suggest a dark purpose. He’s even willing to deceive Rusby’s wife, who has dementia, to learn about his visiting schedule. This indicates that he’s reaching a point of extreme determination in his quest. The man who once raped Kevin when he was a teenager served as a prison guard, and it appears unlikely that Kevin is seeking an apology from him. Instead, Kevin is determined to take revenge on the man who caused him harm, regardless of how much time has passed since the incident.
