Monster Hunter Wilds offers an array of weapons for you, including one standout – the Long Sword – which is known for its blend of swiftness and power. This sword can be utilized in numerous ways, but I’ve discovered two builds that appear particularly effective.
We’ll explore both Low Rank and High Rank build options, ensuring that regardless of your progress, you’ll have the essential tools to turn into a formidable threat against those monsters. Keep in mind that customizing your build is an integral part of Monster Hunter, so consider this guide as a starting point for creating your unique builds!
There are numerous methods to establish a project for prosperity; therefore, avoid being too rigid in your approach. Instead, feel free to experiment and explore new possibilities. May this guide serve as a starting point for your journey.
Low Rank

In this build, you’ll be utilizing a mix of gear typically seen on Rey Dau and Ebony Odogaron. The focus lies primarily on enhancing Burst, Latent Power, and Power Prolonger abilities. This setup will ensure that your attack power stays potent throughout a chase, and when coupled with the Burst Boost from the Odogaron gear, you’ll be capable of dealing some substantial damage.
- Burst – Continuously landing hits gradually increases attack and elemental attack. (Amount increased depends on weapon.)
- Latent Power – Temporarily increases affinity (crit chance) and reduces stamina depletion when certain conditions are met.
- Power Prolonger – Allows long swords, dual blades, insect glaives, switch axes, and charge blades to stay powered up longer.
Here, the aim is to maintain an offensive stance as frequently as you can to build up your buffs. As soon as you reach the maximum charge with your Long Sword, you’ll be dealing strong and consistent damage.
At present, decorative elements are rather scarce, thus the focus of the construction leans heavily towards equipment. Feel free to use any decorative items that appeal to you in this case.
You have the freedom to choose any decorations you prefer, but I would suggest enhancing it further with an extra Power Prolonger or Burst level.
Using the replacement of Odogaron parts will maintain your meter full for a longer period and keep you dealing maximum damage. Since the Rey Dau components are crucial in this setup, feel free to make swaps. I find that Latent Power is quite beneficial in this build due to its activation by consistent damage output.
High Rank

Name | |
---|---|
Primary Weapon | |
Secondary Weapon | |

This construction resembles the Low Rank design but includes extra advantages to ensure your survival. With a mix of Burst, Power Prolonger, Critical Draw, and Punishing Draw, your damage will almost always be at its peak level.
This setup shares similarities with the Low Rank version but boasts additional perks for extended combat. By combining Burst, Power Prolonger, Critical Draw, and Punishing Draw, your damage output is consistently maximized.
- Critical Draw – Increases affinity when performing draw attacks. (Not effective while riding.)
- Punishing Draw – Adds a stun effect to draw attacks and slightly increases attack power. (Not effective while riding.)
As a gamer, I find myself leaning quite a lot on Divine Blessing and Evade Extender to boost my defense. For those who have the decorations, it’s advisable to incorporate one or two that amplify Evade Extender. This extension makes the invincibility frames during draw attacks last longer, providing valuable defense in the heat of battle.
As a fellow enthusiast, I suggest customizing your Talisman set according to your preference; however, I personally opted for Earplugs to quickly amass energy in pursuit and deal additional damage during roars.
For this task, there’s limited flexibility when it comes to equipment selection, as you must have both Burst and Agitator skills: Burst for dealing high damage and Agitator due to High Rank monsters consistently being enraged. The ideal spot to fine-tune is in the decorations.
Emphasize dodging and moving swiftly while delivering powerful blows, ensuring that not even the formidable Arch-Tempered monsters can withstand your attacks.
Recommended Long Swords

In my opinion, the Low Rank Long Swords are acceptable for causing harm, but if you have to choose, I’d suggest opting for Rompo Hacker because it comes with Power Prolonger and inflicts extra damage due to its poison property. Dosha Gravecleaver is a good complementary choice as it assists in upgrading to the High Rank version of the weapon.
In contrast, neither the Hacker nor the Gravecleaver boasts the greatest strength among these weapons, yet the additional damage that the Hacker delivers can prove quite beneficial. However, it is worth noting that the Gravecleaver lacks any elemental power, but its raw damage output surpasses the others.
Among all Long Swords, the Gravecleaver has the highest base damage for a High Rank weapon. However, it lacks Affinity. Yet, with the help of Critical Draw, this disadvantage can be effectively offset, providing a substantial damage increase in your critical hits.
As a fan, I must say that while the Dimensius weapon is appealing, its Artian origin may pose difficulties in sourcing desired parts. However, what sets the Gravecleaver apart is its versatility – it’s perfect for every hunt you embark on.
Regardless of the tools or strategies you choose, keep in mind that occasionally, even with all the necessary components, your creation could still miss the mark if it’s not tailored to the exact goal. Although general builds can handle many challenges effectively, creating something customized might prove useful more frequently than not.
Instead of overlooking, make sure to explore new ideas! Create unique setups tailored to your style and continuously fine-tune them to prepare for the intense challenges awaiting you in the Arena Quests within the Grand Hub. This is an excellent opportunity to showcase your mastery!
Another option would be to organize your gameplay according to when your friends are available to play (assuming you have friends who game with you). If not, you can always team up with other players at random.
