Since its initial unveiling in 2021, Stellar Blade has been no stranger to controversy. As we approach its upcoming PC launch next month, fresh issues are swirling around this much-anticipated title, reminiscent of a past Sony predicament. While PC gamers eagerly anticipate diving into the game, this time the scenario is distinct and bears a striking resemblance to that previous Sony controversy.
The recent issue with the game arises not only from discussions about censorship and revealing attire, but also because it’s been unexpectedly banned in an alarmingly large number of nations. Even the creators of the game are surprised by this widespread restriction.
Stellar Blade‘s PC release has been blocked in more than 130 countries
It’s no secret that Stellar Blade will be released for PC on June 11, but surprisingly, Steam has restricted access to the popular game in more than 130 countries worldwide. This staggering number leaves both Shift Up, the developers of the game, and fans scratching their heads in disbelief. They’ve voiced their confusion publicly on X.
As a fan, I’m sharing some disappointing news: I’ve learned from SteamDB that “Stellar Blade” won’t be accessible for purchase or gifting on Steam in over a hundred countries. Sadly, this means players like those living in Bangladesh, Algeria, Kenya, and numerous other regions won’t get to experience the upcoming release.
Initially, Shift Up posted the trailer for the PC version of their game on various social media platforms. However, developers were quickly overwhelmed with images from players revealing that the game wasn’t accessible in their respective regions, which took them by surprise. Additionally, misconceptions about needing a PlayStation Network account were addressed and dismissed, as they made it clear that the PC edition would not necessitate a PSN account.
The PC version of Stellar Blade does not require a PSN account. May I ask where you live?😱

The cause of this block isn’t clear-cut, yet some fans suspect that a feature present in the PC version of the game might be the reason for the block, and it could be PlayStation who is responsible. It’s much like the Helldivers 2 incident, but this time around, things seem even more puzzling.
Sony might be pulling another Helldivers 2 with the PC release of Stellar Blade

It’s well-known that Sony attempted to mandate a PSN account link for the PC version of Helldivers 2, and it appears that Stellar Blade’s situation bears an uncanny resemblance to this compulsion.
The developers of Stellar Blade have clarified that their PC version doesn’t necessitate a PlayStation Network account. However, some players speculate that an outfit in the PC version could only be obtained by linking Steam and PSN accounts, which might explain any blocking issues encountered.
When you consider that PlayStation Network isn’t accessible in any of the impacted nations, this offers another solid argument for criticizing Sony for their questionable choices. It appears once more that the company is primarily responsible for the game being inaccessible in over a hundred countries, which is ironic given that Shift Up themselves are unaware of the situation.
It seems reasonable to expect that when issues like these arise, Sony would show consideration by informing the developers so they can update the players accordingly. Here’s hoping they take note of the community’s feedback and reconsider this decision if applicable. Simply offering the outfit for free should resolve the situation amicably.
