Sarah Silverman Says Working at ‘SNL’ Makes ‘You Feel Like a Piece of S— and You’re Terrified’; Conan O’Brien Saved Her Career After ‘SNL’ Firing

In my own words, I’d say: I’m thrilled to share that Sarah Silverman recently opened up on “The Howard Stern Show” about her career journey. She expressed her gratitude towards Conan O’Brien for being instrumental in helping revive her career, following her dismissal from “Saturday Night Live” after just one season. As a writer and cast member during Season 19 of SNL, I too experienced the unexpected turn of events when I was let go.

Silverman expressed that Conan O’Brien was an incredible boost for her career. She mentioned that during his first season as host of ‘Late Night’, she had her only year on ‘SNL’. Despite her termination from SNL, he continued to have her appear frequently on the show, which marked the beginning of her success.

In addition, she noted that being on Conan was not possible without ‘SNL.’ She described it as a challenging yet rewarding training ground.

Silverman expressed that working on “SNL” was both enchanting and awe-inspiring, yet there was an undeniable vibe about the place which made one feel insignificant and petrified. The tension… it’s quite challenging to maintain tranquility and calmness in such an environment.

Andy Samberg spoke candidly about the nervousness of performing on ‘SNL’, Silverman mentioned, referring to his ‘SNL50’ skit. It was remarkably relatable – many in the audience seemed to identify with it as we all seem to feel like underdogs here for some reason.

As a passionate movie enthusiast, I’ve always been open about my departure from Saturday Night Live not being due to any personal issues. Instead, it was just the standard behind-the-scenes shuffling that often happens. However, I must admit, I was taken aback by the decision, as it caught me off guard.

Silverman shared with Stern that he was completely taken aback when he was let go, as it hadn’t crossed his mind that such a thing could happen. However, he believes it’s undoubtedly a positive move.
