Pokemon Fossils, Along With Real Dinosaurs, Are Coming To America Next Year

The study of Pokemon biology, often considered a fun but fictional field, has seen intricate details provided in various fan publications about beloved Pokemon species. Interestingly, Japan and Nintendo have expanded this concept by creating the Pokemon Fossil Exhibit. This exhibit showcases lifelike Pokemon “fossils” alongside genuine dinosaur fossils, and it’s been touring Japan since its inauguration. The Pokemon Company has officially announced that the exhibit will make its way to North America in May 2026.

The show is moving to Chicago’s Field Museum on May 22, 2026. This will mark its first appearance outside of Japan. At present, it can be found at the Fukui Prefectural Dinosaur Museum in Katsuyama, Fukui. Following Chicago, it will travel to the Benex Dinosaur Museum in Nagasaki.

During your tour, you’ll encounter lively Pokemon figurines alongside extinct organisms from the Field Museum’s archives – including replicas of dinosaurs like Sue the T. Rex and the Chicago Archaeopteryx, placed alongside Fossil Pokemon such as Tyrantrum and Archeops. Can you identify the distinctions (and resemblances) among them, Trainers?

Although Japan might be out of some travel budgets and the exhibit’s arrival in Chicago is yet a year off, fans can experience the exhibit instantly by taking a virtual tour. The Pokémon Company and Toyohashi Museum of Natural History have made it convenient for us to explore the collection online.
