After the scrapping of Kingdom Hearts Missing Link, the team responsible for the widely praised series has been active on X (previously Twitter) to unveil fresh images of the upcoming mainline installment in the Kingdom Hearts saga: Kingdom Hearts IV. Presented as a compilation with no backstory, it’s challenging to glean much from these images. However, the fourth image in the collection seems to suggest that none other than King Mickey himself will appear as a playable character in the following installment of the game.
Dear members of the Kingdom Hearts family,
We’re putting in every effort to bring you Kingdom Hearts IV, and we won’t rest until it meets the high standards you deserve. We’re committed to creating a game experience that truly impresses you! [1/2]

Besides the image of our chandelier-swinging king, Square Enix didn’t provide many details for contemplation with these pictures. However, the appearance of the game, especially in images 4, 6, and 7, has only increased our excitement to play it.
Kingdom Hearts IV doesn’t yet have a specific launch date announced, but Square Enix is actively developing the game and assures fans they are putting in a lot of effort. With the cancellation of Missing Link, Kingdom Hearts IV is now the upcoming Kingdom Hearts game set for release.
Before its cancellation, Missing Link was intended to bridge the gap between 2019’s Kingdom Hearts III and the next installment in Sora’s tale. This mobile game was characterized as a “GPS-based action RPG,” and it was suggested that it would align with the events of Kingdom Hearts IV. However, Square Enix decided to terminate the project, providing this reasoning:
Despite putting in significant effort into creating and refining the game with the aim of providing an enjoyable experience for many players, we came to realize that maintaining a service that would consistently meet player satisfaction for a prolonged period might be challenging. As a result, we made the difficult decision to discontinue its development.
As Summer Game Fest 2025 approaches, let’s cross our fingers for some exciting updates from the Kingdom Hearts crew in the near future!
