Jason Schreier criticizes gaming media, which heavily distorted his words about „another GTA 6 release delay”

Recently, Jason Schreier from Bloomberg News delved deep into the industry’s responses following the postponement of GTA 6’s release. One topic he touched upon was a secretive studio deciding to push back their multiplayer game’s launch from autumn 2025 to spring 2026.

While refining the game was the primary cause of the delay, another important factor was the concern about conflicting with Rockstar Games’ project. Jason Schreier pointed out that an additional postponement of the release would not only be financially burdensome for the developers, but also uncertain – there is no guarantee that Grand Theft Auto 6 will definitely launch on May 26, 2026.

If industry media hadn’t twisted the meaning of that last statement, it wouldn’t have caused much concern. However, they seized upon it, distorting its intended meaning to speculate about another delay for GTA 6. This oversight didn’t go unnoticed by Schreier, who called them out on their misleading tactics (via X, ben). On Bluesky, the journalist shared a screenshot of a message from VideoGamer and a snippet of his own text. He accompanied this with a disgruntled remark:

1) I write the two paragraphs on the left.

2) Bottom-feeding video game websites publish headlines like the one on the right.

3) Platforms such as Reddit and Google widely disseminate sensational headlines, often leading numerous readers astray.

It seems quite doubtful, but not entirely impossible, that Grand Theft Auto 6 from Rockstar Games won’t face another delay, based on the comments of a former studio member and co-creator of GTA series games, Obbe Vermeij. His recent remarks suggest that announcing a specific release date might mean the developers are certain they can complete the game by then.
