If you’re finding difficulties in obtaining a refund for your previously purchased Thunder Tier One, as it has recently transitioned into a free-to-play game, rest assured, you’re not alone. The game developers are currently addressing this issue and working towards a resolution. Thunder Tier One is a strategic cooperative shooter with a top-down perspective that was initially launched in December 2021 for $19.99. However, starting on May 12th, it became available to play without charge. Remarkably, the developers, Krafton, have decided to offer refunds to all those who previously bought the game.
Thunder Tier One offers refunds for everyone as it goes free-to-play, but encounters issues
Generally speaking, you can request a refund for a Steam game if you decide to do so prior to playing it for more than two hours and within a fortnight from the purchase date. Over the course of time, many games have switched from being premium purchases to free-to-play models, such as Overwatch transforming into Overwatch 2 and Fall Guys adopting this change. I don’t recall receiving any refund options during these transitions, but that wasn’t unexpected. The unique aspect about the current situation with Thunder Tier One is its unconventional nature.
In April, Thunder Tier One made an announcement on Steam that their multiplayer servers would be shutting down due to a combination of factors such as the game’s development direction, decreasing player base, and the difficulties in maintaining the servers. As a result, they are transitioning the game to a free-to-play model, but it won’t receive any further updates since October 2023, and this trend will continue in the future. To compensate players for this change, Thunder Tier One has offered refunds that can be claimed regardless of when the game was purchased or how much time was spent playing it. The transition process started on May 12th, but it hasn’t been a smooth one.
Recently, only a few days after transitioning to free-to-play, the developers of the game Thunder Tier One have addressed an ongoing problem on Steam, titled: “Thunder Tier One Refund Issue – Apology and Update.” This update was posted early this morning (Pacific time), indicating that the issue persists. Generally, Steam doesn’t grant such refunds, so it’s not surprising there might be some hiccups along the way. Here’s hoping they can sort things out soon. In their latest communication, the team acknowledges, “We’ve continued to receive complaints that refunds are still being processed incorrectly, and we take this matter very seriously… We are collaborating with Steam to rectify the problem and will persist in our efforts until it is completely resolved.
In summary, the game Thunder Tier One has garnered a mix of opinions from Steam users after its debut. At present, approximately 65% of the reviews from more than four thousand players are positive. However, there are some gamers who have had an enjoyable experience with the game and admire the developer’s gesture of offering refunds. A recent positive review, logging over twenty hours of playtime, stated, “The game is moving towards a free-to-play model, and the developers are providing full refunds! As a consumer, I find this fantastic! Although I feel I got my money’s worth from the game, I won’t be asking for a refund. Kudos to the dev team!” If you wish to request a refund, it would be wise to monitor the game’s Steam page as the developers are expected to release an update soon.
