Carlos Saldanha Wraps Principal Photography on Sea-Crossing Drama ‘100 Days’ (EXCLUSIVE)

Filmmaker Carlos Saldanha, recognized for his successful animated films like “Rio” and “Ice Age,” has wrapped up the main filming of his first live-action project titled “100 Days.” Set in Brazil, this movie is based on the true story of Brazilian explorer Amyr Klink’s solo transatlantic row. The cast includes Filipe Bragança, Felipe Camargo, and Philippe Leroy-Beaulieu.

100 Days’ international sales will be managed by Global Constellation. This project has garnered significant interest due to its expansive production scale and cross-border collaboration. Notably, it involves Brazil’s Ventre Studio, known for “Godless John”, Boipeba, Madremidia, O2 Filmes, famous for “City of God”, Total Post, and the Disney Group. Additionally, Finland’s influential Good Hand Production is also part of this endeavor.

In a statement, Saldanha expressed that directing his first live-action film in Brazil was an enlightening experience filled with creativity, determination, and emotional connections. “The passion and resourcefulness exhibited by our Brazilian crew, combined with the exceptional talent and kindness of our cast, transformed what seemed impossible into shared triumphs,” said Saldanha. “For instance, we built a massive indoor water tank within a São Paulo warehouse, and braved the tumultuous sea using only ingenuity and courage. Every obstacle that came our way became an opportunity for us to grow closer together, much like a warm family gathering.

As I sat down in the cinema seat, I embarked on a captivating voyage through the lens, following the trailblazing journey of Amyr Klink – the first man to row solo across the Atlantic Ocean back in 1984. The filmmakers masterfully navigated the complexities of logistics and environmental obstacles to vividly bring this inspiring tale to life on screen.

Producer Paula Cosenza emphasized the distinctive nature of the project. “We’ve always viewed this movie as a powerful tale capable of touching hearts globally. ‘100 Days’ marks the first Finland-Brazil co-production, but it’s more than that – it’s a collaboration within Brazil itself, bringing together Ventre Studio, Boipeba, Madremidia, O2, Total Post, and Disney Group to create one of the boldest productions this year. In this exhilarating time for Brazilian cinema, we are delighted to hand over the film to Global Constellation’s highly skilled and dynamic team.

As a devoted admirer, I’d express it like this: “Transforming ‘100 Days’ from page to screen was an honor and a test, calling for bold logistics, pinpoint precision, and unwavering dedication. To bring such a monumental film to life in Brazil meant grappling with intricacies at every turn, but the goal was always to create a cinematic experience as grand and human as Amyr’s voyage.

Roosa Toivonen and Kemppinen from Good Hand Production in Finland expressed their enthusiasm, stating, “Working alongside Carlos, Paula, and their team on this extraordinary film, which actually spans continents, is nothing short of awe-inspiring for us.

Fabien Westerhoff, Film Global Constellation’s Managing Director, stated: “Carlos has crafted some of the most memorable characters in modern family entertainment, from ‘Rio’ to ‘Ferdinand’ and even ‘Scrat.’ We eagerly anticipate revealing his latest creation – an exhilarating tale of survival set at sea. This visually spectacular story follows a man pushing past the limits as he achieves an athletic feat considered impossible.

Besides the Finnish production team, they’ve enlisted Totalpost Finland – a collective made up of Energia VFX, James Post, and Helea Sound Post Production – to contribute to the project. Notably, esteemed Finnish composer Tuomas Kantelinen is responsible for creating the film’s score.

“100 Days” is now entering post-production, with a release date to be announced.
