Social media sensation Lele Pons has found herself at the heart of a heated discussion online, following a controversial gender reveal party that garnered criticism from event organizers and followers alike.

One could say that Millennials may recall Lele Pons, a multitalented content creator of American and Venezuelan descent, who initially skyrocketed to popularity through her comedic videos on the platform Vine. Later, she expanded her repertoire to longer video content on YouTube.

Since that time, Pons has fully established herself as a professional musician, married to Puerto Rican rapper Guaynaa, and eagerly anticipating the birth of their daughter.

Pons, similar to numerous other expectant parents, chose to express her excitement to friends and relatives by organizing a gender reveal party. However, her extravagant event was met with criticism.

Lele Pons’ gender reveal under fire for “dangerous” stunt

On April 25th, ‘Gener Reveal Miami’, a party organizer based in Miami, shared a video of Pons’ gender reveal event, which seemed to take inspiration from the iconic “Slime” phenomenon from Nickelodeon during the 90’s.

In front of a ‘TNT’ marked ‘detonator,’ Pons and her spouse positioned themselves, with a countdown concluding in Pons activating the device. Flanking the detonator were family members and friends divided into two groups, ‘Team Boy’ and ‘Team Girl,’ all attired in transparent safety gear.

When the countdown concluded, a shower of rosy goo poured onto the ‘Team Girl’ section of the stage, causing Pons to lose her footing in her high heels and tumble to the ground.

Despite Pons remaining unscathed and the event proceeding smoothly, commentators expressed worries about the wellbeing of the influencers, pointing out that the grand unveiling might have had a devastating outcome instead.

In the realm of event planning, it’s crucial that we enhance our risk assessment skills to provide superior care for our clients. On occasions when necessary, it’s alright to say ‘no’ for their safety. A recent situation highlighted how important this could be; had things gone differently, it might have ended in a terrible accident. Fortunately, it did not.

This is the scariest unveiling I’ve ever witnessed! It would have been better if they had asked her to stand in front of a safe spot until the slime wouldn’t splash onto her. If they hadn’t done that, things could have turned out terribly. It’s disappointing that the safety of the mother and baby wasn’t prioritized more.

Pons hasn’t spoken about the incident on her social media platforms, instead, she carries on posting joyful pictures detailing her pregnancy progress as she prepares for her baby girl’s arrival.

Over time, gender reveal parties have sparked controversy due to some incidents that went viral and resulted in unfortunate mishaps.

For example, during their gender reveal celebration, a pair unexpectedly made their guests cough due to the use of dyed dry ice to signal they were expecting a daughter. This caused friends and relatives to quickly leave their house.

2023 saw a tragic incident where a pilot lost his life during a gender reveal event. He had been flying low to scatter colorful smoke, but unfortunately, he lost control of the aircraft and it came crashing down to the ground.
