Lewis Pullman’s Sentry Set to Unleash Power in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’

One standout aspect of Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts film is its impressive ensemble cast, which includes returning anti-heroes such as Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost, Wyatt Rusell as John Walker, David Harbour as Red Guardian, Sebastian Stan as Bucky, and Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova. A new addition to this group was Lewis Pullman‘s portrayal of Bob, who later became known as Sentry and eventually The Void. Pullman’s performance in Thunderbolts was a pleasant surprise, as he delivered a deeply emotional and complex portrayal that served as the movie’s emotional core. He is now eager to delve deeper into the character in Avengers: Doomsday.

Initially, when Pullman was assigned the role of Sentry, the actor expressed a sense of misfit, as he shared with Entertainment Weekly: “Strangely, I encountered a discordance, which turned out to be quite enlightening for understanding how Bob might feel. I felt like I didn’t fit in it, even though it was tailored to my physique. When we tested it [for the screen], I thought, ‘Could I please have five minutes alone with this character?'” However, it appears that the actor has grown more at ease with the character, particularly given the favorable response towards Thunderbolts.

Currently, Bob is quickly becoming one of the most intricate and potent figures within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, demonstrating strength comparable to Thor or the Hulk. However, similar to the Hulk, Bob appears to be grappling with an identity quandary that he needs to resolve before he can effectively harness his immense power. The Void seems to cast a shadow over everyone, and the New Avengers (previously known as the Thunderbolts) are vigilantly monitoring Bob to prevent him from succumbing to darkness once more.

Bob aka Sentry Will Continue To Develop in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’

Following the confirmation that Lewis Pullman will reprise his role as Bob in the upcoming movie “Avengers: Doomsday”, fans have been buzzing with theories about what lies ahead for the character. The post-credit scene from “Thunderbolts” (directed by the Russo brothers, who are also behind “Doomsday”) hints that Bob may distance himself from the New Avengers due to his fear of the Void. Pullman expresses eagerness to delve deeper into the character and understand his psychological state following the intense, emotional finale of “Thunderbolts”.

It was quite astonishing and humbling for me to learn that I would get the opportunity to experience a glimpse of Doomsday, given my uncertainty about how much of his memory he might have lost, whether he’s pretending or genuine, and if this resets him completely. This raises questions: Will he need to re-learn all the emotional lessons he acquired throughout the film? Or are these lessons innate to him? As an actor, it’s fascinating to contemplate the potential paths this character could take. There are many possibilities.

In the upcoming movie “Avengers: Doomsday“, we can expect everyone to pitch in, given that it’s suggested that various heroes from different universes will join forces against Doctor Doom portrayed by Robert Downey Jr. It’s likely that Bob may find himself compelled to employ his abilities as the Sentry, but whether this helps or complicates matters for the Avengers is yet to be determined.
