Following a 100-hour exploration at ancient Mayan temples, MrBeast’s recent YouTube content has ignited criticism from Mexican authorities.
On the 10th of May, 2025, Jimmy ‘MrBeast’, known as such, shared a video chronicling his journey through old Mayan temples situated in Mexico. Over these temples, he stayed for an astounding 100 hours.
In just four days after being posted, the video garnered a staggering 55 million views. This engaging video primarily delves into Donaldson and his colleagues’ expedition of various Maya temples situated in southern Mexico.
On the other hand, Mexican authorities have criticized MrBeast’s video for allegedly presenting facts in a biased or misleading manner.
Mexico comments on MrBeast’s video
On Monday, May 12th, Mexico’s National Institute of Anthropology and Archaeology released a statement regarding YouTube personality, MrBeast’s trip to the historical Mayan temples.
In this case, officials verified that the YouTubers possessed valid permits and maintained the integrity of the historical sites during their stay. They also pointed out a few corrections to be made in the final video that was published online.
According to the press statement regarding Chichén Itzá, it’s important to correct a misunderstanding: no drone flights took place within El Castillo, contrary to what was shown in the video. Instead, the flight occurred outside the structure itself. Additionally, the INAH stated that the video underwent significant post-production work on its audio and visual elements.
It’s important to mention that the video appears to have undergone significant editing and visual effects, and it seems to depict scenarios that didn’t actually happen. For instance, the producers did not arrive in a helicopter, spend the night within the archaeological site, or possess any genuine pre-Hispanic mask. The mask they show in the video is clearly a modern replica.
“All of them are false assertions that obey the theatricality of the YouTuber in question.”
Although MrBeast’s video may contain some inaccuracies or misinformation, the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) believes it could spark curiosity among younger generations in Mexico and globally about their ancient cultures.
On previous occasions, this particular YouTube creator has filmed videos at ancient temples. In fact, as recently as last December, he spent an incredible 100 hours exploring the pyramids in Egypt, thanks to being granted exclusive access to them.
