Why Darth Vader Didn’t Appear in the Andor Finale—Showrunner Spills the Truth

The series “Andor” has ended, and its showrunner, Tony Gilroy, is shedding light on why Darth Vader didn’t appear in the final episode.

Darth Vader towers significantly over the Star Wars series, figuratively and physically, playing a crucial role in why it mesmerized audiences across the globe. This is due to the fact that an engaging tale demands an exceptional villain, and Vader exceeds expectations as not merely the epitome of evil but potentially the most formidable adversary in film history.

Fan excitement erupted when it was revealed that a prequel show centered on Rogue One’s character, Andor, is in the works, leading many to ponder if the ominous figure of Darth Vader could make an appearance.

Even though building the Death Star sets the story for both Andor Season 1 and Season 2, Darth Vader doesn’t make an appearance during the final scenes.

Andor “didn’t need” Darth Vader

In Andor Season 2, we reach a point where it concludes just as Rogue One starts, with Cassian preparing to team up with Jyn Erso’s group of rebels on a mission to acquire the Death Star plans. This signifies that Darth Vader did not play a role in this specific segment of the story.

If I had wanted to include them, I would have.

There’s not much cause for questioning whether Gilroy could have employed the character Vader, given his claim in another interview that Disney granted him “complete creative control.

Gilroy told Variety that what they did was an extremely risky move, but it’s impressive how they managed it. Essentially, they kept a close eye on the situation and made adjustments as needed due to economic reasons. No one ever attempted to discourage or influence their decisions in any way throughout this process. I don’t believe something like that will happen again for me, I doubt it.

If Darth Vader didn’t make an appearance at the finale, Andor concludes with a fleeting instant of optimism, a precursor to the Rebellion’s eventual triumph.

If you’re a fan of the Star Wars universe, let me share some insights on why Andor Season 3 might not materialize and why Cassian’s sister won’t reappear. Additionally, I’ll provide updates about upcoming Star Wars projects such as The Mandalorian and Grogu, and Ryan Gosling’s Starfighter.
