‘Billion Dollar Spy’ First Look: Russell Crowe and Harry Lawtey Share Secrets in Cold War Espionage Thriller (EXCLUSIVE)

In the initial preview for the forthcoming Cold War spy thriller titled “Billion Dollar Spy,” Harry Lawtey receives confidential data belonging to the Russian state, which is being passed on by Russell Crowe.

I’m involved with a film currently being produced in Hungary, under the direction of the BAFTA-winning Amma Asante, who has previously directed “Belle” and “A Way of Life”. This production company is a collaboration between Walden Media and Weed Road Pictures, with Tony Goldwyn, Rufus Sewell, and Justin Theroux also part of the star-studded cast.

The book titled ‘Billion Dollar Spy’ revolves around Adolf Tolkachev, one of the CIA’s most valuable spies during the Cold War era. Feeling disillusioned with the Soviet regime, Tolkachev took considerable risks to share thousands of classified documents with the United States. To this day, a portrait of Tolkachev, holding a spy camera, remains at the CIA headquarters in Langley, Virginia – it’s the only such portrait of a non-American on display there.

Based on the book by Pulitzer Prize-winning author David E. Hoffman, titled “Billion Dollar Spy,” this upcoming film features Crowe as the character Tolkachev, with Lawtey portraying his CIA associate within Moscow Station, a young agent named Tom Lenihan. As previously announced, Vera Farmiga will take on the role of Tolkachev’s wife, Natasha, and Willa Fitzgerald will play Mae Lenihan.

Frank Smith, Benjamin Tappan, and Cher Hawrysh from Walden Media, along with Akiva Goldsman and Greg Lessans from Weed Road Pictures, are collaborating on this project. Jane Hooks takes the role of executive producer, while Ildiko Kemeny, David Minkowski, and Ferenc Szále of Pioneer Stillking Films will act as co-producers. Naia Cucukov also serves as an executive producer. Hanway Films is responsible for international sales, and CAA Media Finance handles domestic rights acquisition.
