‘SNL’s’ Sarah Sherman Confronts Aimee Lou Wood Impersonation Backlash: ‘I Feel Terrible That Anyone Would Feel Bad’

Sarah Sherman is giving her side of the Aimee Lou Wood “Saturday Night Live” beef.

Previously in April, Saturday Night Live (SNL) broadcasted a mock version of “The White Lotus,” where Sherman portrayed an extremely unfavorable depiction of Wood’s character, Chelsea. In a recent conversation with Vanity Fair, Sherman clarifies that the sketch was not intended to be disrespectful or malicious.

Sherman expressed great enthusiasm about playing the role, as she’s incredibly well-known and her character is legendary,” he said. “I assure you, my words were not intended to offend anyone. In no way did I enter comedy with the intention of causing distress. I deeply regret if anyone has been made uncomfortable.

The discussed drawing, labeled “The White POTUS,” primarily focused on Donald Trump and his core supporters, including him portrayed by James Austin Johnson. Chloe Fineman took on the role of Melania Trump, while Mikey Day played Donald Trump Jr., and Jon Hamm represented Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Among the “White Lotus” characters, only Chelsea was featured in this sketch.

In a humorous moment, Hamm’s character RFK dressed as Walton Goggins’ Rick, jokingly suggests, “I’ve been having these wild thoughts, like what if we removed fluoride from the drinking water? What effect would that have on people’s teeth?” The scene then shifts to reveal Sherman’s character Chelsea, with a thick accent and oversized dentures, who asks, “What’s fluoride?

Following the broadcast, Wood voiced her displeasure on Instagram about how she was depicted, labeling it as “unkind” and “not funny”.
