Renowned Russian director Kirill Serebrennikov, who will debut his latest work, “The Disappearance of Josef Mengele,” at the upcoming Cannes Film Festival, has assembled a stellar cast for his first French-language film titled “Après.” This project is currently being filmed.
The principal French actors include Ludivine Sagnier (known for “Lupin,” “And Their Children After Them,” and “Peter Pan”), Fanny Ardant (“The Young Lovers,” “8 Women”), Vincent Macaigne (“Maria,” “Colours of Time”), Guillaume Gallienne (“Yves Saint Laurent,” “Me, Myself and Mum”) and Louis Garrel (“The Dreamers,” “Little Women”).
After” is created by Ilya Stewart and Aleksandr Fomin at Hype Studios, in collaboration with Serebrennikov. It is also co-produced by Julia Zaytseva and Igor Pronin for Forma Pro Films, along with Umedia. The executive producers are Vladimir Zemtsov of Gold Rush Pictures and Max Pavlov and Svetlana Punte from Forma Pro Films. This production is associated with Alexander Savitskiy, Kate Gosteva, and Dmitry Venikov of T-VFX, as well as Blacklist MGMT. The Investment and Development Agency of Latvia provides the financial support for this film.
The movie brings the director back together with Hype Studios, the producers of his last five films which have all been Palme d’Or contenders, including “Limonov: The Ballad of Eddie,” “The Student,” “Leto” and “Petrov’s Flu.” Additionally, it marks a reunion for him with several long-term collaborators such as cinematographer Roman Vasyanov, production designers Vladislav Ogay and Lyubov Korolkova, costume designer Tatyana Dolmatovskaya, and editor Hansjörg Weißbrich.
Director Kirill Serebrennikov and Hype Studios are once again gracing the Cannes Film Festival with “The Disappearance of Josef Mengele,” a film premiering in the festival’s Cannes Premiere section. This captivating production is adapted from Olivier Guez’s acclaimed novel, featuring August Diehl as Josef Mengele, the infamous Nazi doctor who eluded capture after World War II by seeking sanctuary in South America. From Mengele’s perspective, “The Disappearance” delves into the clandestine years of this notorious war criminal in South America.
Previously this year, Hype Studios entered a joint production and funding agreement with Gold Rush Pictures, as exclusively disclosed by EbMaster. This partnership will also include a creative alliance with Polish directors Małgorzata Szumowska and Michał Englert on the film “The Idiots.” Aimee Lou Wood, famed for her role in “White Lotus,” and Johnny Flynn (“Ripley”) are set to star as Anna and Fyodor Dostoevsky in this production. Production for “The Idiots” is currently underway. EbMaster previously shared that The Match Factory will handle international sales for the film.
Hype Studios is collaborating with Pathé on the television premiere of Serebrennikov’s “Phantom of the Opera,” a contemporary reinterpretation of Gaston Leroux’s 19th-century novel. This year, they are showcasing Kornél Mundruczó’s “The Revolution According to Kamo” at the Cannes market, with MK2 handling its sale.
