Borderlands 4 is set to launch in September, generating lots of excitement due to improved gameplay, charming characters, the resurgence of cooperative play, and elimination of load times. Moreover, its CEO mentioned it will encompass the largest universe we’ve ever created!
Although the title suggests Borderlands 4, we’ve actually reached our seventh installment in the series, each new addition preserving the unique flair and engaging gameplay that fans adore. Yet, some aspects that initially drew players in have gradually become more problematic for many.
In the game Borderlands 3, players frequently complained about long load times, finding the frequent interruptions disruptive to their looter shooter experience. However, great news for fans! During a recent announcement, CEO Randy Pitchford shared that Borderlands 4 will have no loading times at all.
Borderlands 4 will have no loading times with instant fast travel
At PAX East 2025, I was among the thrilled fans who got to spend more than an hour delving into Q&A sessions and unveilings about Borderlands 4 during Gearbox’s showcase.
During the 40-minute mark of the show, Randy Pitchford, CEO of Gearbox, disclosed an important detail about Borderlands 4: there will be no load times. He further elaborated that this feature allows for a vast world without any interruptions, and there won’t be any areas or elements restricting movement, ensuring a smooth and seamless experience. This is reportedly the largest universe they’ve ever created in the Borderlands series.
Earlier on, I pointed out that long load times were an issue in Borderlands 3. However, it appears that Gearbox Software is addressing this concern head-on by focusing on making the game experience “smooth” or “fluid,” even with a broader gameplay scale.
As a gamer, I can swiftly dash to my gaming buddies at a moment’s notice, keeping our connection intact and bypassing tedious load times with a snap of the fingers – transporting myself instantly to their virtual side without a second thought for those lengthy screens.
It appears that Borderlands 4 is poised to significantly refresh the series, offering a more streamlined gameplay, and the elimination of loading times will likely bring relief to many within the gaming community.
