The horror flick “Clown in a Cornfield” has just hit cinema screens and, during its initial run, it’s broken some records too!
In its premiere weekend, the movie titled “Clown in a Cornfield” raked in an impressive $3.6 million. Notably, this figure breaks the previous record for IFC’s largest opening weekend box office earnings, outperforming last year’s “Late Night with the Devil,” which grossed $2.8 million. It’s worth mentioning that “Late Night with the Devil” eventually amassed $10 million in total earnings, and it’s likely that “Clown in a Cornfield” will surpass this figure as well.
The film, produced on a shoestring budget of under $1 million, has received fantastic feedback. In fact, it boasts a Certified Fresh rating of 73% on Rotten Tomatoes. Following its debut at SXSW, the movie generated positive buzz with early reviews. Before its nationwide release, the film’s star, Frendo the Clown, was spotted making public appearances across various U.S. locations.
As a cinephile myself, I can’t contain my excitement over the phenomenal reception Eli Craig’s clever and amusing reinterpretation of Adam Cesare’s bestselling novel, “Clown in a Cornfield,” has garnered. To put it mildly, we are ecstatic! This success is not merely a product of great storytelling but also the tireless efforts of every single member at IFC Entertainment Group and a significant victory for our RLJE division. Kudos to Mark Ward, RLJE’s Chief Acquisition Officer, for steering “Clown in a Cornfield” to become our biggest theatrical earner ever and our company’s record-breaking opening weekend. This achievement underscores the seamless collaboration within IFC Entertainment Group and the growth of our brands. We strive to bring you unique genre films with widespread appeal.
The Movie “Clown in the Cornfield” was helmed by Eli Craig, with Carter Blanchard as a collaborator on the script. However, the story is adapted from Adam Cesare’s novel of the same title. The film revolves around a father and daughter who settle in a serene town, only to find it plagued by a homicidal clown rising from the cornfields. Key cast members include Katie Douglas, Aaron Abrams, Kevin Durand, Carson MacCormac, Will Sasso, and Vincent Muller.
Will There Be a Sequel to Clown in a Cornfield?
If the current film’s performance is any indication, it seems quite likely that we’ll see a second installment. Fortunately, there’s plenty of source material to work with, since the original novel had two continuations: “Clown in a Cornfield 2: Frendo Lives” and “Clown in a Cornfield 3: The Church of Frendo”. At present, though, no official announcement about a sequel has been made.
The comedy-horror film titled “Clown in a Cornfield” is currently showing in cinemas and will continue to do so for a span of 31 days before becoming available for Premium Video on Demand.
