Nintendo has refuted speculations suggesting that artificial intelligence-style elements are incorporated into the game called Mario Kart World, which is slated for the Nintendo Switch 2.
Anticipation for the Nintendo Switch 2, scheduled to debut on June 5, 2025, is higher than ever. Among the games confirmed to be available right from launch is Mario Kart World.
Back when I was tuned into the Nintendo Direct broadcast, I caught my very first peek at this captivating game. It gave us a sneak preview of diverse maps, intriguing characters, and even offered an initial glimpse into its open-world shift – a transformation that has me truly excited!
Yet, not long after the unveiling, whispers began spreading that certain elements depicted during the Treehouse live stream might have been generated using Artificial Intelligence (AI). Now, Nintendo has released a statement addressing these allegations.
Nintendo denies the use of AI in Mario Kart World
In response to Eurogamer‘s statement, a representative from Nintendo clearly stated that no artificial intelligence was involved in creating the visuals for Mario Kart World during its development.
One claim made about the text on the billboard near the stream suggested it appeared to be enlarged or “upscaled” from a smaller source, and some users found it odd or unusual.
Additionally, other advertisements were reportedly sporting crooked lines and peculiar imagery, hinting at potential involvement of Generative AI. One such ad featured a car with oversized, somewhat unrealistic windows, although Nintendo firmly denies any AI was used during its production process.

It’s evident that Nintendo is not inclined towards adopting Artificial Intelligence. This stance was emphasized by the creator of Mario, Shigeru Miyamoto, during an interview with The New York Times in September 2024.
As a devoted fan, I’d express it like this: “Miyamoto shared his thoughts on AI, stating, ‘The world seems captivated by artificial intelligence. However, what sets Nintendo apart is our desire to tread a path less traveled, to carve out a unique niche for ourselves in the realm of AI.’
This aligns with Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa’s statement from July 2024, where he emphasized that the company aims to keep providing distinct value, which isn’t solely reliant on technology. However, they remain receptive to leveraging technological advancements as well.
