Richard Gadd says the success of “Baby Reindeer” has a few major drawbacks.
During a conversation with The Guardian, Gadd confessed that the popularity he’s received following his hit Netflix miniseries has, on occasion, become overwhelming for him.
Gadd stated, “There have been many difficult situations I’ve encountered.” He continued, “The intensity of this production has become so high at times that it felt like an unbearable weight. It’s been a stormy ride. Right now, I haven’t reached the stage of reflection yet. I need some genuine rest to find my bearings again because I feel overwhelmed.”

Gadd admitted to facing numerous tough instances. “The level of intensity this project has reached is almost unbearable at times,” he said. “It’s been like a hurricane. I haven’t had the chance to reflect on it all yet, but I know I need a break to regain my balance because I feel swamped.
In April 2024, Gadd’s semi-autobiographical series “Baby Reindeer” became one of the ten most popular shows on Netflix for streaming. This series has garnered six Emmys, two BAFTAs, two Golden Globes, and two Critics Choice Awards.

Gadd remarked that some of the stress comes from the rapid success of the program. He explained that just a few days following its launch, excitement about him and the show began to build rapidly.
He shared that it was released on a Thursday, and by Sunday, there were folks at his door seeking autographs, he explained. Originally, I was a comedian in an art house setting, performing for just five people every night, so this sudden shift was quite a shock to me, as I’m still adapting. Now, even going to the grocery store requires extra consideration.
In 2026, Gadd’s upcoming production titled “Half Man” is set to debut as a six-part drama on both HBO and BBC. The series synopsis goes like this: A sudden appearance of Niall’s long-lost ‘brother’ Ruben at his wedding triggers a chain of violent events that takes us through their lives over nearly four decades, from the 1980s to the present day. This ambitious production will delve into the ups and downs of their brotherhood, starting from their teenage encounter to their adult estrangement, encompassing all the joyous, tumultuous, appalling, amusing, contentious, and testing episodes in between. It aims to portray the dynamic vitality of a transforming city – a transforming world, even – while attempting to uncover the complex question: What truly defines being a man?
